New User! - Problems with first Quad - VIDEO**

Hello All,

I am a total newb.

I just built my first quad

I 3D printed the Frame and used the parts below

Naze32 Flight controller
Multistar Elite 2204-2300KV Motors
Turnigy TGY-i6 and 6HC receiver
HobbyKing 12A BlueSeries Brushless Speed Controllers

Using baseflight, I have calibrated the accelerometer and the ESC's.

However, when trying to fly it, it seems to take off and then die after a second or two. In most cases, it takes off and then dies and flips over.

The motors seem jerky.

When I test them in baseflight, they seem to spin up at the same rate. When I use the transmitter to apply throttle, they seem out of sync and jerky. I am flying the quad in horizon and angle mode, so it should self level. I also tried in full manual flight mode.

Again, I am a total newb and I might be missing something totally obvious.

Here is a video I took today of some of the behavior.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!,
Dan

are you chopping the power to zero as soon as it gets airborne? or are you reducing throttle and it's killing the motors because the cut off point is too high?

why are the motor values at different levels at 2:02 in your video? they should all be about the same sitting there idling like that

welcome to MultiRotorForums.com, hang in there, it'll go

Thanks for the feedback.

Im not chopping at all. Thats the behavior with applying throttle and holding steady. It seems to just die once it gains a little altitude

Im not sure why the values are different. Thats why Im seeking help.

i was hoping that someone would say its a calibration issue or somthing.

i've been using everything but NAZE32 but I have one in the shop that I can put on a heli tomorrow. until then maybe someone else will chime in.

is there a user manual and have you gone through it step by step? it's crazy how the smallest detail can keep you in the shop for looooooonnnnnnnnnnggggggg hours! i had a wire that was broken inside of the insulation today that kept me from flying all day! one little wire and the whole operation was no bueno

but hey, Olivia Newton John turned 67 today so some things are still good in the world!

I"m reading through the NAZE32 manual and I gotta say, for those of you that have started in multi-rotor helicopters with the NAZE32 board, I'M IMPRESSED!

There are much more user-friendly systems out there and if some of you started out and stuck with it while figuring out Putty and the rest of it, you've paid your dues and should be very proud of yourselves!

Moving right along, going to attach some pins and wires, maybe a buzzer, and get it mounted. More later then maybe I'll be able to help you out Dave.

FWIW, have you considered switching over to Cleanflight? I'm moving in that direction but want to try the NAZE32 with its native firmware first so I can see the differences. If you're using Baseflight you might find Cleanflight an improvement although I can't say with any certainty which is better.

Yes, the Naze 32 is pretty interesting. I have 2 boards flying. One fun fly, and one full, with compass and barometer. Painless360 and Dennis Baldwin have some good videos on the setups. I just watched GPS install on Painless 360's site, and programmed a GPS to go on my full board. I will hook it up later today. I also have 2 more full naze 32's waiting at the post office! Also I have these setup on my new Taranis transmitter. I love the talking radio! And I still say that this tech is from another world!

cooter, what goes on the helicopter with NAZE and Taranis? a satellite or a full receiver with an sbus wire to the NAZE?

Cooter,

Is it necessary to calibrate the ESC's to the throttle with NAZE? I'd guess it has to be done same as any other flight controller except maybe NAZA with DJI Opto ESC's.

@Dave Wagner , did you ever calibrate the ESC's to the throttle? I'm running baseflight now so I'll keep plugging along and try to get you up and running as soon as possible.

I'm using FrSky D4R-ll receivers setup to CPPM, and one lead to Naze. I calibrated my ESC's using CleanFlight's motor section. Worked really well. I think I saw it on one of Painless360's videos. Been watching motorcycle races, so not going to mess with the GPS till later, or tomorrow. Still haven't decided where to put it on my little Indy250 (Tarrot 250 clone)

OK, I'm pissed! Hooked up the GPS, and got the ground connected to the signal, buy mistake, and smoked my naze board. You gotta be careful with those pins that come out the side of the board, they can confuse you. Will pick up my 2 new boards tomorrow, and start all over again. I did put an acro board back in, and got it working, just to relieve my frustration. such is life.
