New to this and nearly lost one already!

Hi,
After a few years watching a friend and neighbours multirotors flying over my garden I took the plunge and bought a Blade Nano.
I whirred it round the house for a couple of days chasing the wife etc and then thought it's time to get it outside. Well confidence was getting the better of me as I had this thing about roof height and had no idea which way round it was, after a couple of wrong guesses and a strong wind it took off over a roof and out of sight!
Mourning the loss of my £85 I eventually decided to start banging on the neighbours doors further down the street, it was then I realised that my new found hobby seemed quite amusing to other people ( you've lost what, a toy helicopter? is it your Grandsons?) ladders were out however and eventually we found it on a flat roof 5 doors down!
I've now progressed to a DJI 450 with Naza V2 artf kit, I'm hoping my buddy is going to build it for me at the weekend and I'll no doubt be on here with a multitude of newbie questions.
PS
There's a program called 'Harvest' on BBC 2 Wednesday night which has some outstanding Multirotor footage ( so I'm told! )

Welcome to MRF. At least you started small unlike some on here. If your neighbour is kind enough to build your new MR for you then really take note of what he is doing, maybe furnish yourself with some beers to keep him sweet as anyone who will do that for you is worth looking after. Enjoy the forum it's a great resource for info when your neighbour is not available! ;-)

Dave.

Ps is there a link to what you have seen.?

Congratulations on deciding to buy an F450 kit. That's what I did after getting a Blade mQX and crashing it all the time. Actually my F450 isn't built from a kit. I bought all the components separately just to avoid using Dji motors, propellors, and esc's. All of which have had reliability issues all this year. My Dji F450 flies very well and it doesn't carry any Dji motors, propellors, or esc's.

Thanks for the reply Robertsup.
There's no way I know enough to spec components myself so going for the kit means at least they are compatible (hopefully!)
I really need to get some flight time in so I'll be finding out first hand how reliable this kit is.

You'll find out. I did my research last Winter and the forums were all about trashing DJI kits. The props were weak. The FC was unreliable. The crafts flew away. The props broke. The spinners were unreliable and would loosen. The motors vibrated too much. The Dji props were unbalanced. The motors were weak. and so on ad nauseum.

I assembled the Dji F450 frame but installed on it better aftermarket esc's, motors, props, and use a 4S lipo. Early on my goal was to avoid using Dji motors, esc's and props. The Dji motors are proprietary so it's a chore to determine what better aftermarket propellors will fit on those shafts. Or what motors can attach to the arms.

I do like the Dji airframe and the Naza flight controller with gps.

Thanks for the reply Robertsup.
