hia all
just bin looking at FPV and thinking of getting a cheap setup for my naza and f450.
i will be running it with a lcd screen at 1st till i can get something better.
can anyone tell me what one do i get ive seen 2.4g 500mv and 5.8g 500mv. now i take it the 500mv number is more range than a 200mv
but whats with the 2.4g and the 5.8g ? what is the best to get ?

has anyone got any tips on buying a low cost fpv and what to look for.

thanks carl.

i'm new to the fpv transmission but my understanding is the 900mhz is good for getting way up in elevation, 5.8 better for lower altitudes, 2.4 is suppose to be the best of both worlds but you wouldn't want to use the same frequency as your radio so if you plan upgrading later to 2.4, might want to avoid investing in something that might not work later.

There are alot of other differences though. I believe the 900 and 2.4 let more color through, 5.8 will work at higher speeds.....

500mW is further range than 200mW

will be interested to learn more with ya

nice one kloner... that info has help me out loads and prob save me cash in the long run :)

yes its something i like to get into. and some of the vids i seen looks fun to fly like that.
may look into the 5.8 then... try and find some info about them and how good or not so good they are
for this type of thing.

i will keep you upto date on any info i find as i go along

thanks carl.

As I understand it, one major thing is penetration. 900 goes through a lot of things and bounces all over objects that the higher frequencies do not. 5.8 will get block by anything non line of site. IBCrazy described this as well: Imagine the signal being emitted from the antenna as a doughnut shape. As you increase the gain, you squash down the doughnut making it even more directional. I think 5.8 is more efficient and is nice that it uses smaller antennas. I think it doesnt matter much anyways because your 2.4 tx is only good for so much range on it's own. I'd be happy to get a safe 1000' from my gear.

one other thing i found that forgot to write, just because you find a 5.8 or 900 system, there not all using the same freq so there not all compatible across the board by there freq alone. the immersion/fatshark is different than the hobbyking tx's, etc so say at one point you were gonna goto fatshark, you'd want to start buyint gear that uses those frequencies if your using the fatshark rx.

Theres alot to learn

IBcrazy is the clover leaf antenae guy, right? seems like a read a bunch of post where he'd talk about it

whats the big fpv forum, fpvfever.com? something like that, too much to read over there

I've seen alot of mention to line of site on a 2.4 spektrum being 2+ miles..... dunno what your 35mhz does, but i bet it goes quite a ways. There was a youtube vid of a guy and his wife driving away from each other with a vid on the servo/tx and they went 2.5 miles los

when you say that vid inspired you, i think thats a bunch of pentrating like the 900 is better at. when we say line of sight, that means you can see it and not a tree branch between ya, little lone a brick building.

That seth guys done this a long time, watched his vids for a while now, good stuff

Wonder if that plane has some repeater on it, has that little dish, seems to just loft around one area

I had my wife wear my goggles inside my house, took the multi down to my lower 40 behind big oak trees and flew around while she watched, said it was really clear when i'd go up but down low was a little wobbly here and there. it wasn't more than 200 yards but she said it never went blank and could make it all out. Wish it was easier to record what seen on it

yes i understand now about the pentrating stuff .... that seth must have a real good bit of kit then to be doing stuff like that
say kloner how do you record from you fpv... do you hook somethink like a archos upto your rx and record like that ?

i think i may stick to open space flying with a good line of sight with a fpv setup to save messing around and cost
then if i get into it may look at a better setup.

i do like the looks of the wookong as well ... god im doing it again a mate got me into helis time ago... start out with one
and at the end i had 8 lol must say im getting into multirotors a lot more than heli back in the day :) and i didnt think id say that about
anything that use batteries... never like helis with lipos lol

I've got a wall of helis, planks and now a multi, know what you mean.

I'm using the gopro live mode to fpv and to record. just doesn't show osd or what it's transmitting like without the glasses on.

There doesn't seem to be a real price difference in frequency's, just gotta pick one that won't cross paths with your future. i figure i'll be on 2.4 till they pry it out of my dead cold hands with the control radio setup, i'm too deep in now
