Motor Poles

I was wondering if anybody can give me an answer to this question. I have notice that some motors are advertising 16poles versus 22poles. Does that mean the number of magnets? If so are there advantages and/or disadvantages to more or less poles?

Basically there is a tradeoff between voltage level, number of poles and the torque produced. More poles means lower rpm but greater torque which allows the motor to turn a larger diameter prop with more pitch.

Absolutely correct. Also, efficiency = big props turning slowly, hence, the higher pole count is a better choice and more expensive. If you're flying some little 2lb whizzer and just slamming it around, it's quite different, but with a 10 lb aircraft and DSLR out there you'll want more than 9 minute flights. 22 or more is the choice.
