Mk BL2.0 with WKM ?

Hi.
Im thinking about buying a DJI WKM to build a Droidworx Sky Jib.
Motors will be Plettenberg Orbit 15.
Can anybody tell me if it is possilble to use the MK BL 2.0 ESC ?
Does the WK M work on a big Okto ?
I think i read something in any forum that there are problems with big Oktos and wind.

Has anybody experience with the differences between WKM and MK FC 2.0?
I would like to use it as video Kopter.

It is possible to use the MK BL by sending the signal to the PPM pad but the firmware on the board is not optimized for use as a PWM speed controller so the real world performance is poor. Beyond that, why would you use a controller as expensive as the MK BL when the WKM will work with a set of PWM ESCs that cost about the same as a single BL 2.0?

I currently have a Droidworx AD6 with full MK stack using FC 2.1 and a standard MK hexa V1, full stack with FC 2.1 and BL 1.2. I also have a WKM on a 700mm Y6 frame and smaller quad with WKM built on an MK frame. The bigger multis each have a Photohigher AV 130 and the smaller are setup to carry GoPro HD. I have two threads in the forum where I have done comparison flights, here is the one with the big multis... http://www.multirotorforums.com/showthread.php?1326-MK-and-WKM-go-head-to-head-doing-AV and here is the one with the small ones... http://www.multirotorforums.com/showthread.php?1368-WKM-and-MK-head-to-head-part-2

I find there isn't much difference for AV use other than the WKM is easier to fly and has much better altitude hold than the MK, but if you need advanced GPS functions like waypoint flight then MK is the better and less expensive choice.

Welcome to MultiRotorForums.com!!
ken,
no issues anymore with the wkm and the bigger heli's? has it been a software fix or just a matter of tuning?

Hi Ken. Thanks for your answer.
I wanted to use the Bl 2.0 because i have some of them lying around.
Maybe a bad Idea.
Wich one would you prefer for a Sky Jib 8 with plettenberg orbit 15 Motors?

Dont go down MK stuff at all unless you want mither.. I really dont believe they can be trusted with the WKM system.. in theory they should work but Geoff at quadcopters.co.uk tried and gave up.. We are using the HobbyWing ESC's no mither with them.

As Ken says why use something that is three/four times less the price to do the same job.. if u have spares sell um on ebay quick before they loose even more value as the wmk system moves on...

BTW welcome to MRF's.. as you have probably guessed its the friendliest place on the net for FREE unbiased info on MR's

Bart there may have been an issue while peeps got their head around the system but I can assure you there is no problem with the biguns.. And I mean big un's.. will post video soon of the biggest I have had the privilege to be involved with.. Its flaming HUGE!

Geoff at QC.uk has some huge kahonas for what he is doing to push this in the UK forward... its really exciting to be involved

Me to.....
Thanks dave.
Im thinking about moving to the DJI Systhem because
Of the money for the MK license when you want to earn some money
With flying. Its much more than buying the WMK M ....
The only thing im
Afraid of is that there is no telemetry like i have now with the Jeti .
I would like to know how much mAh. Is used already.

Does the GPS Mode of the WMK M work that smooth that you can use it for filming?
In the latest MK Firmware Gps doesnt lock out when you are moving the stick. You move the GPS Position and the Kopter follows.
That works pretty good.

Is it possible to switch of the Kompass on the WKM M?
I have the experience that on the most interresting locations there are
Problems with the magnetic field. For example at the Harbour with a lot of steel...

@jochen braune

Its just so easy and simple to set up.. The MK is so flamin temperamental. Yes I have had hours of fun flying MK stuff but when it goes wrong its like pulling teeth to sort it out.. AND costs a fortune to try and get it sorted.. With the WMK-M at least you can fairly easily diagnose problems.. There are advantages with both systems but as far as I am concerned I want to fly and not spend all my time in the shed with a soldering iron and a laptop!

WMK-M has given me a new incentive to move forward with my AP

There's still some issues in windy conditions with the big ships. I was doing some testing the other day with my MK and WKM in the wind and the MK proved to be the more stable platform in gusty conditions. Although both of them did well for overall stability from the viewpoint of the camera the Mk definitely had the edge. From ground level it was hard to tell which one was better, they were both getting bumped around quite a bit. That said, the conditions I was testing in would not be anything I would want to fly in for recording video, it could have been cleaned up in post but the raw output was definitely wobbly on both multi's. If I HAD to fly in those conditions I would probably go with the MK, at least as things stand right now.

Anyway, I'll soon find out how much things have improved with big frames, here's the Y6 next to it's new home. By the time the motors arrive next week I should have the electronics moved over and the AV130 in place as well...
