Welcome to MultiRotorForums.com Atrawick, there's a lot to learn. What are you coming into this with? Any RC experience? Any digital media experience? Are you comfortable building things? Fixing things? Spending lots of money only to watch your investment crash to the ground leaving you with weeks worth of repairs and more bills to pay? I'm only kidding about that last part, not really kidding but you know, kidding.

I have been into photography for a while too. Done a few aerial jobs out of full scale aircraft.

Always like a experimenting.

My suggestion is to build backwards...start with the camera you want to fly, find/build a brushless gimbal that's suited to the camera/lens combo you want, then spec a hex or octo that'll handle that payload for the kind of flying you intend to do. Like @Bartman said, the options are numerous. And the more tailored the setup is to the mission the better it'll be.

what's your preferred camera for your new heli? still photos or video?

there are a couple of new brushless gimbals coming to market this month, the Gremsi H6 and the Defy G2X, we're expecting to have product reviews of both sometime after NAB. then there's the Mōvi M5 by Freefly that is awesome and carries a range of cameras.

Various canon's. May start with my 40d for testing. Then use 5 or 6d.

so your talking about a pretty serious helicopter then. if you haven't done anything with multi-rotor helicopters yet then I'd suggest you go to the Beginners' Lounge and check out the Group Build F450/550 thread. With your background in RC I wouldn't necessarily steer you towards the DJI NAZA flight control system but I'd definitely recommend you or anyone else start with a basic quad that you can learn with. The rest just seems to fall into place so much more easily from there.
