Lithium polymer or lithium ion

We have come to regard the traditional Lipo battery as the standard go-to power supply. But if you look around at how electric vehicles are developing it is lithium ion technology that rules. the advantages of lipos are that they can easily be manufactured in almost any physical shape but not much else favors them over lithium ion Phosphate (LiFe PO 4). Lithium ion batteries need to be contained in a tough cylindrical case to prevent expansion of the internal layers during high discharge, however the main advantage lies in the fact that they take a lot longer to fully discharge. This can be seen by the fact that in the worlds highest technology race of the modern formula one car the KERS systems employ lithium ion batteries. Food for thought. I think if I were going for an endurance record I know what batteries I would be using. :tennis:

A couple of years ago I was using Lithium ion and I don't really know why I followed the trend away from them.
