It flew away and I can't find it :( - LifePo battery dead on MX-20 transmitter

Well, I guess it had to happen some day because I grew careless. I lost my FPV quad yesterday because the battery went dead on my MX-20 transmitter. I had just finished finally getting this copter exactly how I wanted it and away she went. I watched about $1200 fly away while yelling at my wife to get the keys and stick the baby in the car. Remarkably I found two people on a rural road who had encounters. One lady saw it fly across her back pasture while mowing and was able to tell me it was about 30-60ft. off the ground. As I followed the direction she said it went I ran into a group of guys sitting on their porch having some beers. They said they heard a strange sound like a swarm of bees but they couldn't see what it was because it was just below the tree line. This was a little over a mile away from the little park where I was flying. Well, I searched for 5 hours today until getting kicked off property for trespassing. Going to make signs now. This was totally my fault. When I got my new MX-20 I also got a LifePo battery to have a much longer time between charges than what the stock battery did. The problem is that I never setup when to have the low voltage alarm sound. I also never invested in the plane tracker I told myself I needed to invest in. I also did not have my failsafe setup on this copter because I was flying with my HoverflyPro board and needed to do it through the TX. Again, my bad. Luckily it drifted in the direction of pastures, oak motts, and cedar patches. So I am pretty confident it did not hurt/damage anyone/anything. That was my greatest fear when I realized I had no control and looked down to see the TX was off. I post this so that others realize they need to take all the precautions they can in case of a failure. I was lucky that it appears no one got hurt. But there is no way to replace the $1200 copter right now.So, range check your system, set and test your low voltage alarms, program failsafes!!!!Sad days,Shawn

gutted for you Shawn.
I had a vary similar experience around 12 months ago when I was showing how far away my MK Hexa could go to friends. Needless to say it soon went a long way away. Days of searching in the overgrown scrubland proved fruitless however it turned up 10 days later over 3 miles away after hitting a tree. Luckily it hadn't rained for those 10 days and the electronics were all sound. I was found by a dog walker & I had written my name & phone number under the dome & on the frame. Don't give up hope and to everyone else as a last resort write some details on your MR incase the worst happens!
good luck in your search Shawn.

Thanks Lec. Just got done posting about 30 flyers. I didn't have my name and phone # on it either. Big lessons learned! I contacted a fellow grad student who does wildlife telemetry (monkeys) and I am going to order some transmitters that his RX/yagi setup can pickup. This way I can just borrow his stuff if I need to go track a copter again.

Welcome to MultiRotorForums.com!!
Sorry to hear it Shawn. THese things have a way of turning up so don't give up hope.
Good advice though to write something, somewhere on the copter.

i always set my failsafe on TX to 0 % . I prefer the copter comes down like a brick rather than have it fly away without control, because i know what's beneath the copter where i am flying, but i don't know what is under it if it goes out of my control.
