Invest in equipment or a new multi?

I am trying to figure out if it would be smarter to buy extra batteries and better propellers for my current quad; or get a more advanced quad.

Currently learning with a x5c quad, but I'd like to move from Toy grade to Hobby grade (fpv, GPS, camera mount, etc)
Batteries($20)+props(20) is going to be about $40.

Should I buy the extra parts or put the $40 to a better copter?
(upgrade model suggestions are welcome)

You can build a nice gps 450 size quad for about 300 dollars if you include the remote and 3s or 4s lipo and if you get all your parts from china off of aliexpress, gearbest and banggood.
