Im going mad! Motor starts up on its own

Hi all

Just building another quad and have moved gear from old frame to new.... done it loads of times before so Im stumped as to why I am having this issue, hopefully you can help:

I am running TBS ESC's
900kv tigers
Naza & GPS

I have 1 motor (motor 3) that will (completely sporadically) start up on its own, judder a bit and then stop again. Eg without me starting the motors on the Naza! :livid:

I can literally plug the battery in and a few seconds later that motor will start for a few seconds.... then stop, then another blast for a seconds and stop.... then nothing.

When I start up all motors it runs fine. Then kill then all and maybe it will start up again for a second, maybe not.

I have checked my soldering, and also motor.

I happens to me the ESC that has the built in BEC (although the power is not connected to Naza)

I cant understand how the motor can power up if not told to by NAZA?

Glad I dont have any props on!

Any advise welcome.

Once thing I have noticed.... when I power up you get the 'da da da daaaa' noise.... (I think from the motors?) - I note they are out of sink.

On my TBS they make the noise all at once (in time).

I also had the TBS ESC's, and the soldering of the bullet connectors to the board was just useless. About 6 came off just by slightly wiggling....I replaced them because I was not sure anymore about the quality of the whole ESC's...

If you have a chance than move the ESC from the motor which spins up sporadically to another motor....

If that other motor spins up randomly, than the ESC is faulty....
If the same motor spins up, than the Naza is faulty.....

Could also be that the throttle calibration is out of sync, but first try to move the ESC to track down the source of your problem....

The motors can't be the problem since they have no electronics in them...they spin if they get power, or they don't spin.

Thanks Chris ;)

Its not the bullets I def know that. These are a good 6months old and have been working on my other quad so its either bad luck (for me) and its up the spout or Im doing something stupid :)

Its the motor arming without being armed by the Naza that concerns me. I have swapped #3 (dodgy one) and #4 at the Naza end (M3 & M4) and the issue is still there on the same motor, so its def the ESC.

Second TBS one that has died on me today! :(

There is actually a few complains about the TBS ESC's around the internet....

But I feel sorry for you anyway....

Mr take no prisoners!
Good to hear it is sorted, hopefully TBS will replace your faulty ESC's and sort out why they are failing.
