My eventual goal is to perform elevated structure inspection, transmission tower, cell tower etc, I have currently no RC experience. I expect I will also do property ,real estate, construction work too. I'd like to be able to fly manually and programmed waypoints and take video and still shots with a D5 or similar. Can I accomplish a quality product for that range of cost? Thanks in advance and thanks for the platform to ask silly newbie questions. Dubliner. PS I have searched the topic and find as much contrary information as confirmatory. I should add, I got a TREX 600 electric and a sim so I'll be learning there.

best bit of advice I can give you simply because I have been where you are is to go buy a simple quad and start at the beginning. There is a broad range of knowledge and skills you need to get your head around to be able to do what you want successfully. The DJI Naza is a good start or the Open Pilot project when their new cc3d board comes out.

If you can find a simple cheap ready to fly setup, start there. Also get a flight sim. Dont worry initially about your end goal but just familiarize yourself with all the various aspects of rc and quads etc. Batteries, props, configurations, radios etc etc. After a couple of months of that you will have a clearer view of everything and will make better decisions from that.

First, buy a Blade Mqx with about 5 or 6 batteries and fly it like crazy every day. I still fly mine a lot - it is so much fun and it can take a beating!

Next, build a small quad yourself. Pick a frame, ESCs, motors, props, flight controller, batteries... Then fly a lot.

Then go buy the big one.

A lot of people use DJI's gear for the flight controller. I went with Hoverfly for ease of setup - very happy with it and it keeps getting better.

What ben said, only you might want to add a simulator in there somewhere. even if you get the hang of flying the real thing first, it really can help. Especially if there is a new move you want to perfect. 1 crash can buy many simulators, 1 simulator can save you having to buy many helicopters.

I would suggest one ready top fly toy quad to start with.
After that you need to build one small quad with naza or similar so u get the feeling and some basic skils in setiing the multirotors.

Then i would suggest that u spend some money and actually go and visit one or 2 shops that provide rtf units. There you can see demo units fly, discuss all options and get first hand experience from profesionals.
After that u will have a better picture on who is good and can deliver vhat he promised in start and who is only selling them. I know many clients that are buying second units cause they did not get the kopter that was able to do the job on the first purchase or later on got bad support for it since they started this bussines without having the basic knowledge on it and baught a system

Basically u have 3 frames and 3 electronics avalible.
Mikorkopter, Hoverfly and DJI. We are only working with MK and DJI so will not comment on hooverfly.
