Aeronavics / Droidworx I need some sort of introduction to the beautiful Droidworx Universe....

Hi there

I am following the Droidworx stuff for some time now from the corner of one eye, but didn't have the time so far to dive deeper into that beautiful stuff.....

Since I am finally really sick and tired of any DJI products and their approach towards customers, I am on the change now. I guess it's like with cars.....you decide for a brand (due to service, personal contact, technical faszination....) and then you just play arround with different models within that brand. I am an Audi guy for most of my lif, and that won't change. From what I was reading so far, Droidworx could be my new Audi.....great people who stand behind their product, great technology and cool features, long-term strategy....and the feeling you deal with real people and not a faulty, faceless vendor machine like DJI.

No comes the questions:

1) CX 600

This little baby really hit me, but it looks like at the moment I can only buy it directly through the Droidworx web-shop.....Most shops sell the CX-4, some in V2, some in V3, but that ones are not on the Droidworx site anymore.....hmmmmm

2) XM-X4 Titanium

Onother one which caught my attention, but hard to buy in Europe and not too many infos in the net......Is the XM-X4 a more exotic bird, or is it just too new ???

Maybe someone can shed some light into my dark world.....

Hello

I think that you did not do your homework. Well cx v2, v3 and c600 are 99% the same. Except some fancy stuff.
XM x4- beautifull bird and avalibe in at least 3 stores in europe. Check droidworx suplier page and you will see.
I wote for XM sicnce cx is too small and not worth the money. We have one in our fleet and you can see a lot off videos made with it.

Chekc them on vimeo.

Thanx for the info....but I didn't want to compare the CX 600 with the XM-X4....the CX 600 looks like more to be in the class of a Phantom (want to use it with a GoPro and a brushless gimbal), and the XM-X4 should carry a Lumix GH3 for example....

....so, yes....I did my homework, although they have thrown me out of almost every school I went to :)

Problem is, I like fancy stuff.....

Was just checking your shop....looks like you got the XM-X4 + retract landing gear....guess where I will get it from ??? :)

Sounds like someone is about to jump ship, don't blame you really, I have read a lot of your posts regarding dji, I will certainly want to know how you get along with the new toys.

If you want to wait for a week or two, I'll have a CX600 delivered with the extended landing gear. It will compliment my XM6, and use an alexmos brushless gimbal and hero3 . Planning to go 5 or 6s, and Tmotor props. I will let you know what it's like.

Out of all my birds i fly the cx4 most ! I had to mod it a little from the first version, change the gps position and didnt like the orignal lipo position. Wanted it to the back to balance out the whole copter having the gimbal as counter weight !. But in the meantime the cx4 gives my the most space to fiddle around with my gopro brushless gimbal etc. And eventually it will have the space to add the third axis for the mount !

Its expensive for what it is but its a good all-round machine in my eyes !

What flight controller can you use if you jump DJI ship? Or do you stay with WKM?

DJI Naza ist more than enough for a CX, only if waypoint is a must than you would have to go with WKM. But not sure what DJI has in mind with the Naza V2 since addtional modules can be added easily now via can-bus

I will go with ZeroUAV on the XM-X4 and Naza for the CX600 (as Boris sugested) although I hate to give DJI any more money...but in that case it makes sense.

Its expensive for what it is but its a good all-round machine in my eyes !

I don't mind to pay a little extra if I get good quality, and the definition of "good quality" to me is the rig + a good after-sales service + availability of spare parts

If someone has flown an XM-X4 it would be great to get a few more infos about flight-time and average payload weights....

Thanks for the comments so far

I am working out motors and prop combo now. I have no idea of the weight of the cx600 so cannot calculate an AUW until it's built. I'm thinking just Tmotor 2814-10 770kv with 12x5's Xoar or 12x4.5 Tmotor props. I could go 6s and some low kV motors and 14 inch props, but I like rpm in my rigs for smoother depending.
I've been using YS-X6 and YS-X4 for a long time, and will likely put the YS-X4 navigator in it, but will use this with a SuperX to test the new system from Xaircraft. There's a lot of haters out there of Xaircraft, but I think they have it rite now. Time will tell, but I'm excited to receive the test unit. Apparently it mounts the FC to your desktop, and runs it's own software from the drive (mac and pc). Would be a welcome relief being mac based and having to run all my multirotor software in bootcamp.

Just found a shop in the US to buy the CX600 : http://www.aerialtechnology.com/shop/aeronavics-cx-600-titanium-airframe-kit/

The guys at Aerialtechnology also sell a RTF-verion of the CX600:

http://www.aerialtechnology.com/shop/ready-to-fly-aeronavics-cx-600-titanium/

Their specs:

Motors/Prop/ESC

  • 4x Tiger Motor MN4012 400kv Brushless Motors
  • 4x Maytech 30 amp Electronic Speed Controllers
  • 4x APC 10×3.8 Props

Batteries/Charger/Power Supply

  • 6x Max Amps 4 cell 5450 Batteries

So if you go with 6S / 770kv motor / 12" props...that's a serious statement compared to the RTF-version of the CX600....am I missing something ??? :dejection:

Apart from my confusion - for Tiger Motors - these 3 would be in the game for choice:

RTF version:
Tiger Motor MN4012 400kv
http://www.rctigermotor.com/show.php?contentid=171

Nic's choice:
Tiger Motor MN2814 770kv
http://www.rctigermotor.com/show.php?contentid=132

Droidworx's recommondation:
Tiger Motor MN3510 ?? kv
http://www.rctigermotor.com/show.php?contentid=188
or
Tiger Motor MN4012 400kv (like the RTF verion)

I am not to sure about low KV 6cell and big props if you are going WKM. I would like to see flight videos of these low rev light weight machines.

I here of 30 min flight times but have yet to see them in a real world working environment. Sure we have build 20 min machines but in reality they cannot work unless just for survailance carrying nowt but a low weight FPV cam and down link.

I still ask why in the working environment and under current regulations for filming or taking pics would you need to fly for 30 mins. Yep there are applications I could use a 30 min machine but it aint in film work and is very specialised.

What do you want the machine for chris?

I cant use ecalc to get that to fly... Ive decided, I'm going 4s on mine. 5000mah x2, Avtroto/MT2814-10 770kv. I'll fly 12x5 Xoar or 12x4.5 Tmotor CF props, 40A ESC, and coax it. So, it'll be a guts little thing, with about 15mins flight time.

Hey Nic, have a nearly identical outfit - AD6 converted to X8, 4s Axi 2814s, 12" Xoar Carbons. Finding that with the AV200 underneath its just too heavy and sinks in manual. She flies but not super happy about it. Fabbed a 15mm Quick Release mount and stuffed a set of quadframe legs and the musky gimbal underneath over the last week but havent had a chance to test yet. Hopefully that little bit of diet will put it in the zone.

Chris, the droid frames are awesome. Spendy but engineered very well and rugged too. I like that they thought about what they were doing especially as I keep changing things about and it's still able to accommodate.

Droider hit the nail on the head, whaddaya plan to sling underneath it?? (Droid - will be trying a low KV/WKM on the foldable x8, we'll see... have similar concerns)

Dave, SMP ....since I am not a "Pro", I have no designated use for the little CX600, but I like the size - easy to have it with me in the car all the time or even in a back-back. I am super happy with my TBS disco, but the lack of a front-mounted BL-gimbal (without hunting for modifications) and not being able to just pack-and-go would only leave the PHANTOM as an option, but apart from the pot-ugly looks, I dont want to use any DJI product anymore. My plan is to get an ARRIS CM2000 (ordered already) BL-Gimbal for the CX600 - http://www.hobby-wing.com/arris-cm2000-gopro-brushless-gimbal.html....there are a few very good responses on the net, and the price is almost laughable. I might settle for a 700kv-range motor (have to have a serious look at the Leopard motors range) and then play arround with different props in real-live. Ultra-long flight times or high-speed is not my aim, I am more hunting for stabile and sweet-tempered flight characteristic.

Dave, would you mind to share any secrets about the motor/prop/LiPo combo of your XM-X4 ??? :02.47-tranquillity:

Chris

PS: For anyone who doesn't know the ARRIS CM2000 gimbal:

I had the ADX4 coax when I made the why video chris. 5kg chubby thing it was but flew solid on 11x5 Graupners. The cx600 will be built carefully to not get too fat.

That was the ticket! Took the Ad6->X8 out for a test last night and the diet worked. Fully loaded w single battery AUW was 11.6lb/ 5.2kg. Is going to need the second battery which will bring it just under 6 kg. Still the tiniest bit porky (55% hover in Manual) but the Quadframes LG and Musky Gimbal seem to be the right combo. Only downside I can see is that the Quadframes LG transmits TONS more vibration than the Integrated LG AV200. So time to tear apart and add even more Anti Vibration. Even with the extra vibes I'm a bit giddy, the musky gimbal is using the older martinez firmware and the stabilization on these brushless are just night and day better than servos. Finally I can see the light at the end of the gimbal tunnel!! Will load the newer Martinez FW and save the Alex board for another project. I also really like the X8 footprint on these smaller frames. Tossed the Copter and Groundstation in the backseat and went off to test. Loaded the truck in about 30 seconds and in the air almost as quickly. Bigger is definitely not always better!!

OH....just saw a post on RCG - TBS is bringing out a brushless gimbal incorporated into frame! FINALLY!
