Howdo from sunny Jersey!!

Hi,

I am a complete noob on the RC front, and on a slight whim have been and bought a DJI F450 kit with Naza controller, and the Spektrum DX6i Tx and AR6210 Rx.

Now having managed to build the kit, and having read about 500 pages of internet help, and watched almost every video on YouTube on the subject, I have come to the conclusion that I am out of my depth in the technological programming part of this...

I have managed to get the software and driver onto the computer, but cannot in any shape or form work out how to start the motors, or do the full setup required.

I am thoroughly enjoying the challenge but my attention threshold is waning, and brute force and ignorance is coming to the fore..

Any pointers, guides, videos and criticism (constructive or other) will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Mike

Hi this is Geoff from Quadcopters Uk , I dont know if you got the kit from our webshop but Im happy to try and help . Although title states Howdy from Sunny Jersey so it surely cant be anywhere near the Uk lol .
Firstly if you have got the software and drivers installed you have got most the way so congrats :)
The settings that are pre loaded are usually fairly good to go ie Gain settings etc, You firstly need to make sure all channels are moving the correct way .
Click TX Settings and make sure traditional receiver is selected . Default is S-BUS OR D-BUS
Sequence is throttle should go from far left to far right when you push throttle from bottom to top of Tx .
Then Rudder , this is same stick as throttle but it moves left to right , this should show as center and when you push it to the right the slider should move from center to right ,, If its going the wrong way click Norm or Rev this will change it.
Now Aileron , this is Right hand stick and this moves from left to right also ,, and should go from center to right when push right , and center to left when you push left .. Again if its wrong click norm or rev to change it .
And finally Elevator this is right hand stick and moves up and down , same theory applies you push from center upwards the slider needs to go to the right , and push down it goes left .. Click norm or rev if needs changing .

You also need to make sure the Attitude and Manual can be selected , this will usually be controlled with the gear switch and if the modes do not light up blue you need to adjust the travel for the GEAR switch , this is in the travel or servo menu in the radio . Lower the travel until it lights Attitude or Manual , now flick the switch and adjust again till the opposite to what you have just set lights up blue on the slider on the tx screen .
Finally click tx calibration and move all sticks to there full extent and make sure throttle is back down at the bottom and click finish .

Also I would advise selecting Intelligent Arming , and this means it will auto shut off if no throttle detected for a few seconds.
Once all this is done , make sure all props are removed and check that motors are going in the direction as per manual if they are not and need reversing , swap over any 2 wires where the motors plug into the esc .
When your happy all motors are going in the right direction and it is arming and disarming correctly , put props back on and test outdoors.

I find the F450 with the naza flies better with the 8" Props on either 3s or 4s lipos.
You will also need to play around with the voltage protection because default will be too conservative .

Hopefully you will get it up in the air soon and enjoy a great little Quadcopter.

Howdo!

Im in Jersey in the Channel Islands, and bought the kit from a very helpful place called Quadcopters.co.uk!!

I will have a go at following the instructions Geoff has left above, and hopefully that will get everything setup to go..

What do i press or switch to start the rotors once i get the calibration set correctly?
As a complete noob to all this I expect to have plenty more questions regarding gain, travel, voltage protection and what mode does what..

Will also have to get a load of spares so got bits to change when i crash it! And need some ideas to extend the legs to allow the GoPro to be mounted underneath without it being the first thing that hits the deck when my pilot skills are found to be as inept as my engineering skills...

Cheers all,

Mike

Aye Up 'HOWDO' that not very Jersey like talk! ;-)

Make sure you have unplugged the copter from the computer or it wont start.. well it wont on the WKM. BUT WORD OF WARNING.. TAKE YOUR PROPS OFF IF YO HAVE THEM ON WHILE EXPERIMENTNG... TRUST ME TAKE UM OFF.

IAs for legs then just get yourself some Kit stays or dowel and zip tie them to the legs done!

I much prefer had launches and recoveries but I guess I have done it so many times now its just second nature... Goeff keeps telling me Ill loose a finger one day..

Good luck

Sorry I forgot to mention how to arm the motors , You need to push both sticks either downwards and to the center or downwards and to the outside together then the motors will start .
If you do not give throttle input for a few seconds the motors will disarm and you will need to arm them again .
Also has Dave says they wont start when connected to assistant software .
For the extending of the legs , something as simple as small rods tiewrapped to the existing stubby legs will do fine , thats what i have on mine and they work no problem.
