Hoverfly Pro vs Sport

I am building an ultra small folding quad and I need a reliable small FC. It would be nice to not spend $450 on a HFP but I also have experience with it and know it is the best out there. Does anyone have hands on with the Sport board? It would be nice if it was smooth like the HFP but i somehow doubt it or everyone would have one. I am NOT buying DJI stuff so please dont recommend the Naza.

Don't have an answer for you, but are you wanting a more aerobatic bird or you just want to fly around smoothly?

I have a H/F Sport board, it's not as small as you might think, I last had it in a DJI F330 frame and it was fairly tight fit. It is on the other hand smaller than the Pro board. The firmware has 3 modes you set the board to, from aerobatic to APV, while its much tamer in APV it's not in the same class as a board that was designed for APV as far as stability goes.

I think the reason you don't hear of many of them out in the wild is because they cost as much as a Naza but don't have any of the features like auto level or altitude hold. For most people it's a no brainer when they're shopping for the most features for the $ spent, they buy the Naza. For sport flying there's any number of boards that are as good or better for less $, the CC 3D being one of them at less than half the price. IMO they've priced themselves out of this segment of the market by being more expensive than boards of equal capability, and being the same price as controllers with a lot more features, that's why the Sport isn't popular.

That said, the one I have has proved a lot more reliable than the Pro board I have and it flys well in any of the modes. I probably won't be using it anymore so if you're really itching to try one I'll let it go for a good price.

Ken, I appreciate the offer. Since Al is gracious enough to send one out for demo, i will give that a go. I am making a new product that I am hoping to sell. I'll most likely make the frame accomodate a few different controllers. really the Naza and any FC with a box doesnt really need specific holes made for it. Thanks to the both of you though for your generous offers. Looks like an early Xmas.

Al, I have a few left over Maytech v1 30 amp's that I was really hoping to use. Will they by chance work enough to not give me issues or do I need to get more Plush's?

thanks

Yuri

edit: the sport really doesnt have auto-level??

Correct, no auto level, just basic fight plus low level altitude hold via ultrasonic sensor which more or less limits it to a couple meters from the ground or indoors usage. I never bought sensor for mine so I never tried the AH, also only flew it outdoors so it would have had limited usefulness even if it had the sensor.

Looking forward to hearing your feedback Yuri as I have been curious about the Sport board as well. I want to build a rig that is only for fun.

I will definitely report back. As long as it has a mode that is not too twitchy I am good. I have no interest in aerobatics but since I am using this for FPV it might be ok to not have AL.

A board without AL is like Hoverflytech without Al. haha!

Any results to report? Looking forward to hearing what you think.

There is a major revision of the SPORT firmware coming out soon. It will fly as good as the PRO on manual mode with the AP firmware.

Will it have waypoints, rth, and a toaster oven? Kidding.

Sounds good. from what I hear it already flies pretty damn well. I like simple and the fact that I am using it for FPV makes the manual mode a non issue. But if i were flying LOS I would definitely be in trouble as the quad is so small I would lose it 30' away.

thanks for the update though.

Yuri

Here is my latest product. The Fold-N-fly. I'll have it up on my website early next year. I need to correct some small things in the wiring assembly. FYI, it will still fit in the case with the 9" props on it.

I just had my first flight with the sport and it flies VERY well. I used the AP firmware, which I will assume is the most gentle of the 3. It's weird though, it seems to level itself out quite well. ??? I can bank it and let off the sticks and it goes right back to level. How is this possible? As my quad is very small I had to put my gains down to 15. even at 20 there was some glitchiness. But i am impressed. And very simple to setup.

I love my HFS. It's rock solid at a high gain setting on the AV rom flash, and it can flip with the best of them on the Expert Rom Flash.

And it's so simple to use. If people with all of the smaller 400 size quads tried one, they would toss the DJi's in the bin.

I have two sport boards one in a Y6 rig, and one in a 500 sz quad. Both are super solid even in wind. They are a great alternative if you do not need the features of the HFP.

Hoverfly should make their slogan say " simply smooth. "

I still don't get how my sport is so stable and semi self leveling.
