That is a very awesome starter quad. That's exactly what I did too. But if I can advise you one thing. DO NOT USE HK APM. Spend the extra money and get 3DRobotics APM 2.6. You will save yourself tons of problems and money. I went with HK versions and was on my 3rd one before I realized that I need to do something different. 10-15 arms later, 3-4 motors, tons of props. I had many flyaways (luckily I got them all back), and weird GPS problems, etc. I could barely fly 2 batteries straight and not have an issue.
Since putting APM 2.6 from 3DRobotics I have flown about 30 batteries and not had a single crash or issue whatsoever.

i'm new at this quad thing and APM.
It's my understanding that the quads needs flight controller. And things like Naza, or APM allows for RTH, failsafe and altitude hold, etc. Right?
I figure with this HobbyPeople DIY quad, i'll learn to fly then add the APM or Naza later.
I think the flight controller that comes with my kit has flight stabilization. This "should" help me fly better, right?

Yes that one does come with a simple flight controller that keeps it stable (http://bit.ly/1kIlwAH). Doesn't have any of the advanced flight modes. In order to get RTH and altitude hold, loiter, etc you must have GPS/Barometer/Compass. After all the stuff I read about NAZA having fly aways I stay away from them and stick with 3DRobotics.
