Hi there! I work at Massey University in Palmerston North, NZ. We purchased a heavy lift droidworx/mikrokopter Hexacopter from Aerobot.com.au June 2011. We have since added to the fleet a heavy lift quad and a small training quad. We are using these UAV's for research at Massey. So far we have inspected power line insulators, counted cow pats on a paddock, taken infra-red photos of tussock and urine spots in a dairy paddock. A phd student is currently training to fly and she is doing really well.
well, thats a good intro, i better get back to work.
cheers
Matthew

Pukeko... welcome. Great intro.

I spent 10 years in Palmy... and a little local company called Skycam used my cameras in the early days in testing 20 years ago!

Are you flying fpv, autonomous guided or using your eyes? I have flown over a few of the Massey farms myself.

Hi
First i started just flying by eye, then as my piloting skills have improved i had a go at FPV flying, and in the last month i have been doing some GPS waypoint flying. I still need to practice my fpv flying, it still scares me. But the GPS waypoints are great when i need to be at a particular location, like directly above the middle of a paddock.

Welcome to the forum, it pleases me to see someone using their MR for true scientific work. Its such an obvious tool and so under employed. Any pictures to post ? Any papers published ?
