Hi fellow MultiRotor Enthusiasts.

I am new to multirotors but have been flying R/C Helis for over 20 years. There are a few multirotors at our flying fields and they have caught my attention so I thought it was about time I started looking at getting myself one. My interest is in aerial photography and videography and have been strapping cameras onto helis and taking video and stills for a while now but want something more stable and basically a dedicated camera ship.

I have posted a wanted ad in the classifieds as I am looking for my first multirotor but don't want to spend a fortune in case it doesn't work out.

Thanks.

Thanks Keith,

I have noticed members of this forum aren't as open to giving advice as I have found on other forums. I don't know if it's the questions I've asked.

I'm looking at a Skyjib6 and the DJI Wookong control system at the moment and will try and limit it to around 6K........

Thanks for the message.

Hi Lance, firstly, welcome to MRF. Any ship by Droidworx is going to be top quality, I call them the rolls royce of MR... but I am biased having bought a SJ8 from them & its my first EVER MR aircraft, managed to get it airbourne as well. So if my experience can help them here I am. I normally fly a trex 600 esp, so the octo was a walk in the park to fly compared to the heli & as you know, the 600 series are easy heli's to fly. I went with MK electronics (no MK speed controllers as I need more amps). I use mine for video & photography or should I say, I will be when I get the undercart to retract ;)
So if you want reliability & redundancy.. go for an octo. If you want what I consider the best, go Droidworx.

Hi Ross, Thanks for the reply. I was looking around for a good quality larger frame and when I came across the Droidworx site I knew I had found what I was looking for!!

I know the SJ8 is a bigger machine with a higher lifting capacity but is there any other reason for going to the 8 over the 6??

Thanks,

Lance

Welcome to MultiRotorForums.com!!
Hi Lance and welcome to the site. There are a million discussions (last I checked it was 1,167,456 to be exact) happening around the world of multi's regarding the number of motors to have. Some will say fewer is more efficient, some will say more provides redundancy. Having six in a hexa or Y-6 configuration is certainly an option but it comes down to what do you want to carry and how much can you afford to spend. Do you have a specific camera in mind? Would you like to be able to use GPS to position your heli in one spot or navigate waypoints? As it is now, DJI and MK seem to make the best electronics of the available options as they both have excellent stability and functional GPS units. There are less expensive options that will allow you to get flying but something of a long term plan might help you save money in the long run even though you'll lay out more scratch at the beginning.
