hexacopter descending while moving forward

Hi

Im semi-new to copters. I have a DIY NAZA-M controlled hexa and I was flying last saturday on a very big field and i noticed that then i pushed the lever forward at maximum speed the copter was going straight, but also descending...like it was losing altitude... maybe it's my fault because the battery was not fully loaded, but im curious to see if the problem could have been caused by something else... maybe my GAIN settings where too low? the vertical maybe?
