Just joined the forum as I am looking into becoming a part of the multirotor community. I recently stumbled across a story on drones and became intrigued; now I have the bug to own one. So I started researching and found a RTF DJI F550 with NAZA M V2 w/ GPS that is practically brand new for $600; it comes with everything except the radio and landing gear. Is that a good buy? Or would I be better to build my own and gain the experience? At some point I'd like to become proficient enough to add a gimbal for aerial photography. I welcome any suggestions.

Thanks

Tom

Still Building!
Welcome Tom!!!

You have come to the right place! I elected to go the "build my own" quad so that I could understand all the in's and out's of the quad. I am building a DJI F450. I purchased just the frame and sourced the rest of the parts from various vendors.

I know that I will crash it so by building it myself, I can repair it myself as well. I am going with an inexpensive flight controller (KK2.1) and receiver (lemon). Once I get it flying, I will probably get a FC with GPS functionality but that is once I can manually fly decently.

My goals are similar you yours....aerial videos and perhaps FPV as well.

For some reason my cut/paste isn't working but in the beginners section Motopreserve posted a good thread two weeks ago entitled "Getting started by beginners, for beginners" that is a great post to check out!

Check the stickies in the beginners section for Bartman's Group Build that has some awesome information about building an F450 with the Naza.

Again welcome!!!

Mike :)

Welcome Tom. Post freely and often. Get a "toy" grade quad that will bind with a decent programmable Tx and start flying and practicing and having some fun as you start your build project. These things are not as easy to fly as one would think and you will crash. Trust me you will crash. I crash less now, but I do crash "better" and more expensively too.
