Ground Control Station questions

So finally getting to tackling the waypoint software.

GT installed, all good.
Currently waiting for my 50 waypoint serial code from Quadcopters
When I ty to connect I get permission denied (which I believe is because I am waiting for serial?

So I want to get to grips with the software, most of the manual might as well be in swahili so I have a few questions if I may.

  • Can I not use it at all (even simulate) until I have this code?
  • When in simulation mode, do I actually have to connect to the S800 (eg have the S800 sitting there with it powered up)?
  • Are there any good video or online tutorials for this kit (bar the DJI manual)?

Thanks

GS Simulation mode:
1. Take care! Although I thought did (take care), it happended to me that the MR took off, obviously I did something wrong, that's for sure.
2. Take care, take off propellers or tie it down to the ground or anything else.
3. Simulation mode is ok, however, it's just a simulation. I personally did some simulation runs but I didn't learn too much until I started to use GS in real mode.
4. You have to power WKM in simulation too, but you don't have to power the ESCs/motors.
5. I don't know of any additional help besides the manual (it does help but unfortunately it leaves many questions open) and, of course, this (and maybe other) forum(-s).
6. One good point at the end: IMHO, exploring GS (in real mode) is not too risky, because you can always switch to ATTTI (or manual) via your Tx and you are save. For me that's the most important fallback scenario if GS doesn't perform as I expect.
7. During testing I always make a screencast (video recording of the screen). That helped and still helps me a lot in understanding what happened. It's a very good source for a debriefing. I can only recommend doing that.
