Greetings from London

Hi all,

I'm a complete newcomer to all of this, I haven't flown anything RC for about 15 years, when I had a bullet glider. I'll probably have a hundred and one questions on everything multi rotor!

I'm a keen amateur photographer & want to get into some aerial photography & film, and also just to have a little fun! Before I dive straight in to a hex or octo, for my DSLR, (which I don't have the budget for right now) I thought I would start out with a quad & GoPro. The below is what I have in mind, please feel free to point out any errors here or parts that I'm missing

1. DJI F450 frame
2. DJI NAZA V2 + GPS
3. Devo 10 transmitter/receiver
4. Tarot 2-axis gimbal
5. Battery - ???
6. FPV kit - ???

So just a couple of dumb questions to be getting along with...

The F450 kit seems to come with a set of 10" & 8" rotors. Is it as simple as the 10" give more lift? If so why supply the 8" rotors?

People talk about having a spotter while they fly, what does the spotter do?

Thanks & looking forward to hearing your input & expertise.

Welcome to the forum. I am just outside London in Essex. If you need any help just shout there are thousands of threads here relating to every aspect of the sport, including you machines, lipos, controlers, cameras, gimbals etc......

Take it slow and safe and you should enjoy it without too many ££££££ mistakes.

Easy? You call that easy?

Welcome!

I'm in North London.

In answer to your questions, they supply two sizes of blades because people use varying payloads underneath and depending on the number of cells your lipo has. A spotter scans the area for hazards like low flying planes and stops people talking to you during the flight (very important, a multirotor attracts attention like you wouldn't believe!)

I use a DJI F550 and find it very stable and easy to work on. I highly recommend Graupner propellers. The ImmersionRC FPV gear is easy to use and setup. Most people recommend a monitor before trying goggles but I did it the otherway round and love the goggles for FPV stuff. If your view is Aerial Photography then a monitor is great for framing.

If you go the DJI route I find 4S lipos just the best for efficiency and flight time. 5000mah is a good size.

Hope some of this helps. All just my opinion of course.

Cheers!

Thanks for the info, really useful. in regards the battery, do all components share one battery (flight control, gimbal, fpv cam, etc), or do they all need separate LiPo's?

Thanks, Jb

P.S. Where's the best place on this forum to ask these really basic questions?

Hey there. I run everything off the flight pack mate. Less wires and weight. My flight times doubled when I went from 3S 10" to 4S 9".
