GPS Telemetry to DX18

Hi all
I fly an S800 with wookong M. Suffered a particularly bad fly away yesterday. Craft flew to about 2km before I regained control. Managed to get almost home before battery died. Ditched into a low tree canopy about 300m out. Managed to find craft as recognised video feed as it landed. It has however scared me!

I use DX18 with AR9020 receiver. Today I ordered a TM1000 with the GPS module. Anyone used these two together? My plan is that given worst case again I will be able to see last/current lat/long to aide recovery.

Easy? You call that easy?
I can't comment on the Spektrum GPS (Droider can though), but I use the TM1000 which is great. I highly recommend the DJI OSD as with the data logging function you could go through the flight and see why it flew away, well, in theory.

Also, the solar activity was in the red yesterday which does affect GPS signal apparently. I don't really see why this would cause a fly away as I don't know much about it, but I don't fly when it's in the red as I put it in my operations manual so I have to stick to it.

Was there much damage to your S800?

Well done getting it back from that far away. I would have needed new underwear after that!

Hi. Have analysed the iosd data (had to use a windows machine to do that, yuck!) nothing obvious, except it seems to show no altitude until the fly away. I am thinking that it was a rogue gps signal, which made the craft think it was elsewhere hence in gps mode it was trying to return to a good place. The iosd helped me locate it and I used the white orientation mark to show home direction. On reflection I perhaps should have switched to atti mode, but hindsight is a wonderful thing. I followed my pops procedure to the letter, noted and stated direction of travel. Watched display closely when out of visual range and used this info to retrieve.

I was obviously fairly with it as when battery finally gave up the ghost I headed for trees!

Underwear was was a total right off!

Well all I can say is well done! You did well coping under those circumstances. I would have been shaking like a leaf if my S800 started acting on it's own. Even RTH gets me nervous. I like to be in control! (As we all do)

Odd that the iOSD data shows no altitude until fly away. What about the other GPS data? Any odd peaks?

I do use a TM1000 with the GPS sensor but have yet to actually use it for more than determining speed and distance.
I hope that is ALL I ever have to use it for.
It works great.

When analysing the lat in the data viewer there appears to be a spike at fly away time. Can't align this with the plotted points though.

Telemetry and and GPS sensor on their way now. Hopefully be here on Monday to fit and give some peace of mind.
