XAircraft Gain? What gain?

I have an Xaircraft X650 value, with DJI Naza FC, torxpower motors and 18A ESCs. I am having difficulty setting up the gains, mainly because I don't really understand what the gains are! Do I go higher, or lower? Why?

I'm looking forward to hearing more about gains too. My understanding is that gains is the relationship (ratio) between control inputs and control outputs. My question is this pilot inputs only or does it also affect FC inputs?

By this I mean, do gains only affect the inputs from the sticks, basically making the sticks more or less sensitive, or do they also affect the inputs from the gyro, compass, and barometer in the FC, making the craft more or less sensitive to changes in attitude?
