Futaba Radio Trainer Mode

I've read the manuals and scoured the internet but I still can't get my radios to pair up for trainer mode. Master TX is the t14sg, student tx is T8fgs and I'm using a standard trainer cable I got from my local shop. I went through the steps of turning on the first four channels to be controlled by student, just as a test. I set the trainer switch on the master to ingage the students input. I've read that you are actually supposed to leave the student transmitter off, but with the newer computer 2.4 systems I'm thinking thats not true. In any case I've tried having the student tx off and on in neither are working. I'm unable to get the Master tx to engage in trainer mode, when I flip the assigned trainer switch the off label in the trainer menu does not change. Generally think the Futaba manuals are pretty straight forward but in this case Im at a loss. Thanks for your help.

Ditto for me as well with the "standard" trainer cable..... but then I reviewed the fine print and the related table in the Futaba 8FG manual and eventually I understood that I had to get the newer, more expensive cable which I did and then it worked. There are a lot of twists and turns in the conditions of use however and it is conceivable that the 8FG will still work with the older trainer cable but only as the student trainer box..... so many conditions.......

the futaba wireless setup worked for us really well, but even that was a pita to program and get working

ya i was surprised that I could not really find any decent setup video or tutorial. Most searches lead to a simple, "just read the manual" response.
