flashed multistar 30A overheating problem

Here's my setup:
dji 450 quad swinging 10" props
ardupilot controller (powered by one of the SBEC's from an ESC, others are d/c'd)
4S lipo
turnigy NTM prop drive series 900kv motors
30A multistar esc successfully flashed with kda.hex

My problem is that when bench testing, everything runs cool...then when I put on the props and take her for a maiden I am able to get in a low hover but after 30s the ESC's are hot to the point that they would melt.

Anyone run into this problem, any suggestions on how to troubleshoot or fix it?
Thanks for the help.

What is you AUW (All up Weight)? That might have an effect on hot ESC's. I had that back some time ago on a DJI F550. I was trying to carry too much weight for the props and motors. I was running 10" props with tiger 900Kv motors.

What is your MR AUW?

Heat and shortened flight times are a sign of a loss in system design efficiency and is most often a result of inadequate motor torque.
In your case the 900kv motors are designed for speed ahead of torque and larger diameter props need more torque as do heavier MRs.
Use eCalc for Multirotors to gain great insight into the interaction of the these critical factors.
