First pic of the Z15

Convincing demonstration :)

I know I've been harping on about this, but I really am curious to understand the performance/behaviour of this gimbal - specifically the "16mm lens only" thing - and I haven't seen any clear explanation of it yet. That Zeiss 18mm lens is a lump compared to the 16mm Sony. So obviously the gimbal is a fair way out of balance on the pitch axis. Is the problem that there is no provision for shifting the camera forwards/backwards in order to restore the CG? Or is it something in the firmware knowing the acceleration/torque to apply to a specific mass? Or something else?

yes its the acceleration , the bigger lenses are just to heavy for it.
as demonstrated on our video if the lens is to heavy it will wobble..
with the 16F28 it doesnt.
the CG is fine since you can move the camera front and back to get good balance.
we also shoot with Sony FS-100 and we find the the pancake 16F28 for filming is anyway a good choice.
and: sony is comming out with a 18MM pancake! for emount.
we have been testing this gimbal for weeks now , and its my third one all had small changes.
i also figured out how to use it to make pictures AND start stop recording video.
i have send DJI the hardware and instructions to do it and they will i think implement it in a future update.
since at the moment you can not start stop video with the current setup.
but there is a way around it

my personal thoughts : the ideal videocam for this would be the GH2 the Z15 hdmi convertor works with the gh2.
the gh2 wont fit the z15 frame , it needs more hight.
to exchange that it needs a higher upper frame , but then it needs to be calibrated by a DJI service centre.
the gh2 with a pancake , i mean we even made the video with the GH2 and THAT is a very good camera to make aerials with.
dji will come soon with that version.

Welcome to MultiRotorForums.com!!
Nice first test there , We took delivery of our Zenmuse Z15 just over a week ago and I can say the set up is very easy and we have flown as 1 man operation with ease and also set up to quickly switch to a 2 man set up.
The gimbal is out of this world , super silent and by adjusting the travel adjust on the radio this can control the speed of the pan and tilt etc so you can make it very very smooth.

video?

a couple of questions

I am waiting for my GH2 version. In the mean time I am wondering what you are usin as your Video downlink option?. Also I was curious in the switchin between 1 and 2 man operation? How simple is that to do? Is it possible to use the Sbus on a futaba with 1 man?. From the manual it looks like no,but just wondering for those who have first hand experience?

thanks

if you have futaba you can add a second receiver right?
i would go that route.
we use the 2 TX setup and i just give the zenmuse its own receiver , much easyer.
and required by law overhere (fpv without spotter is not allowed)

Its an interesting one though if you compare the weight between the now supported 16f28 with 67g and the later on to be supported 24f18z sony with 225 grams. So there seems to be some possibilities left concerning weight of the lenses.

well the pancakes are very short to the body of the camera and i think that makes all the difference.
my test lens sticks out 60mm

Wow thats impressive! Regarding the comparison to the Ecilop - I don't think you can compare the two. Totally different look and feel to the footage. I would love to have a Zenmuse but for now I am happy with the Ecilop, but in no way do I think that it is as good as the Zenmuse.

But then again it doesnt need to be! Im running mine with a NAZA and $14 tilt/roll servos. I like to think of it as a poor mans Zenmuse... hehe Here is some footage for you to compare: https://vimeo.com/44305640

...nicely done jamienz! How did you take the interior shots?

Nice stable footage. I've read this somewhere but I forget, is the Z15 self contained or does it require connection to a DJI FC as well?

Interesting thread. So how can you control the shutter or video when to take a picture or start video recording ?

Easy? You call that easy?
From your transmitter. Just set it up and you're ready to go. All in the manual. You can even just plug another receiver into it and have a cameraman take control if you like.

Thanks for your reply Benjamin, I thought I might have to try and source wireless IR.

No, you're all good. I use a GH2 which has a direct link to the shutter control. Not sure about the Sonys but I think the Zen has a built-in IR shutter control. Correct me if I'm wrong.

PS - Feel free to start new topics. Drugging through these olds posts to get to your one new entry is a bit labourious. We don't mind answering questions.

Have you got the Zenmuse already?
