drone is here stay imo its part of the cultural language now, everyone calls them drones, its not even debatable at this point.. its something that were just gonna have to adopt and accept especially if your a business or your gonna be cutting you arm off. if you know anyone that does search engine optimization he or she can show you the stats. i look at it like when people call wheels "rims" it hurts my ears but its the norm.

no professional organization uses the slang reference for what they do.

Good point. I guess I see it sort of like the NAACP. In 1909 nobody liked the term "colored", but it wasn't really offensive at the time, and there wasn't any better descriptive term available. Same thing here. UAS isn't in the public lexicon, and drone is equally descriptive.

All I'm saying is don't skewer the guy for using drone when many people think it's a perfectly acceptable word. Again, I don't even really know him, and he may turn out to be a big mistake for us - but upending the entire project because of semantics I think is a poor choice.

it's a preference thing....the FAA will soon make the sUAS designation official and a professional organization with the word drone will be rather unprofessional if you ask me. i'm not the guy making the effort in this case so it's not up to me.

i'm a let-freedom-ring kind of guy so if the community circles the wagons around the word drone then so be it. i'm just discussing it for sake of knowing the options have been considered.

i believe back in 1909 the term colored was the generally accepted word for African Americans and a technical word for that part of our population didn't exist so it isn't exactly the same.

I think RPV, or remotely piloted vehicle is far more accurate but it doesn't stand the chance of a snowball.
