DJI Naza F450 does a roll in fail safe

Hi guys
Out flying the F450 today and some strange things started to happen it looked like M4 Esc or motor started to glitch. Changed battery 3350 lipo and seemed to be ok. So flying about and put it in fail safe to show one of my mates how it works and this is what happened. Check out the video. Any thoughts?

From the long shadows and the sun being to the left of the copter, could it be the dreaded "light catching the Naza" ????

never thought of the sun, never new it affected the Naza won't have much problems in Scotland then !!!

i wud have a good look at the bullet connectors too. Starting with the motor that you thought had a glitch.

Had the same happened to me at 3 different occasions with F450 NAZA GPS. Figured that an intermittent connection with ESC had to be involved with the problem. The NAZA system works at something like 400 Hz. My understanding is that it is at least one stabilization sensing operation every 1/400 sec... It doesn't take much of a variation in the contact to skip a few cycles...

I have soldered my motors directly to the ESC (removed and replaced an inch or so of heat shrink) and never had an occurence since. Did the same with my F550 from the start and never had a glitch on the machine. Some people had the same problem in Sweden or Norway, I forgot, and reported that all was solved with this mod. Refer to: No more glitches F450 blog I published on this forum, with tons of pictures.

Off course, you have to unsolder the wires if you change the motors but how often do you change motors? It is a breeze to perform and 100 easier than soldering Deans connectors! Ha! Ha!

So far, this mod has always work!

ok soldered motors directly to the ESC went out today and had about 6/7 flights and no glitches. Thanks for tip RR will remember to solder ESC to motors next time.

I agree with RR here, the bullets are very much hit and miss and if they spin round like some of mine have in the past, take them off and solder the wires direct to the ESC is my advice. The sunlight on the NAZA thing? Not sure about that because has DJI said anything to confirm this is a real problem. I can see why DJI would not admit to the prop problem but I reckon the NAZA needing a bit of black tape to rectify a fault would be an admission that even the Chinese could handle.

Happy this solved your problem. Mind you, other components can also cause glitches on the system BUT, after over 70 flights on my F450 and approaching 50 on my F550 (conservative numbers) I never had another glitch or erratic behavior from the machines. This mod should be a must. You may fly for a while but after many flights, I noticed that the bullet style connectors always get loose + some sand and dirt get between the male /female portion of the connector. For that particular use, in this particular environment, this type of connector can easily become a problem.

They are likely great as power connectors on less sensitive systems that do not run on 400 Hz refresh frequency.

Also, an absolute must is NOT to fly on DJI props. Do not get me wrong, I really appreciate the NAZA, GPS, F450 and F550; all made from DJI but their props will break in the air after a dozen flights. It happened to me twice... and it was clearly documented on video, no doubts about this. Use APC Electric (cheap, safe and good) or the Graupners (expensive, safe and excellent).
