DIY CNC Machine

Looks like my other tread was closed. I'm guessing that it was because I posted the link. The machine I have is a modified Momus design. I paid for the plans online and made some changes to make it bigger. The plans called for a cutting area of 16"x16" and a wood box to mount the machine. I made it larger to a 24"24" area and made the frame out of steel tube. I also added a second motor to the Y axis so there would be no twisting. Next I want to add a suction table to it. As for the cost, the whole thing was about $1800. Half that cost is the electronics to run it. Already looking at building another as I see things that I would like to upgrade on it. Total time to build it was about 4 months but I was in no rush as I have a family and had to make time to fly as well. There is no reason that someone could't have it running in 2 weeks if they had the time spend on it.

Just made this on the machine for some one. It is a anti rotation bracket for a synergy e5 heli. Next is to design a hexacopter as I have a new gimble on the way and need something to mount it too.

That looks like .25 al! Very nice cuts for a DIY machine. I have a beefy ball screw machine and I can get a finish like that if I'm really careful. What geometry bit are you using/brand?

The bit I used was a 1/16 inch end mill. Took about 45 min to cut out. I got the bit from thomas skinner and I think the brand was Garr Tool. Im hoping soon to make a new and stronger machine one day to handle faster feed speeds in aluminum.
