Controls Setup

New Pilot
Hi all, Im a very new member here, just built my first quad, F450 with Naza V2, first test flight tonight, well a bit of a hover in the dark in the garden, all good, well crashed twice due to lack of room and getting used to controls, this leads me onto my second reason for crash, iv got mine set up with the LED at the front, whilst this makes it easy to see the problem i found was controls reversed, managed to go straight into the wall rather than move it away ops, no damage though,

How do you guys get around this, Get used to it ? fly with it away from you and mount the LED at the back or finally reverse the controls in SW and always fly with nose towards you,

Im new to this so it may seem a simple questing but I'm just not sure whats best

Thanks in advance

Yes LED at the back and until you get used to basic flying probably best to keep the back towards you so the controls are more intuative. And find some safe space to fly in.

Keep the LED at the back. The back is the part of the aircraft that faces you most and as the LED is a key 'instrument' it makes sense to keep it at the back. The reason it is normally facing you if at the back is because it is more intuitive to keep the aircraft's rear facing you so that when you move the aircraft left is actually goes left (from your perspective, not the aircraft's!). However, you need to get to the point where you instinctively use the right commands regardless of if the aircraft is pointing away from you, towards you and any angle in between. It will come with a bit of practice so dont worry and to begin with it is worth getting a good simulator if flying in manual. If flying in attitude or GPS mode then you may as well just fly the machine but whilst doing this I would go to a wide open flying field and get some height as height is your friend. Ideally go 3 mistakes high which for most is about 20ft. Look at the BMFA's website for BMFA flying sites. Its worth becoming a member of the BMFA as you get good insurance thrown in with the membership.
