Central Florida FPV Meet - February 25 - 28, 2016

It's time once again for the CFL FPV Meet, brought to you by ReadyMadeRC! That's right, one of the biggest and best FPV meets in North America is back for another round, and we have lots of new tricks up our sleeves.

What's new? Well, most everything! For starters, the venue. While our old location was a hometown favorite that we'd grown up with, we needed something a little better suited for the size of our crowds. And, after last year's rain fest, a little higher and a lot less muddier. Our new field is not only a nice large flying location, but it just happens to be attached to 43 acres of summer camp! That means things like cabins and bunks available to rent, real showers and bathrooms, pavilions, fire pits, nature trails, a playground, and all sorts of other fun stuff!

We've also partnered with Easter Seals Florida, a charity dedicated to helping those with autism and other disabilities, to create an event that not only provides a great experience for us hobbyists, but also gives something back to the community, and helps promote the positive nature of the "drone" community. In this day and age, our hobby needs positive exposure, and we're working to drive that in central Florida. All net proceeds will be donated to help fund Camp Challenge and Easter Seals Florida.

Dates

Thursday, February 25th - Sunday, February 28th

Location

Easter Seals Camp Challenge
31600 Camp Challenge Rd
Sorrento, FL 32776

Registration Info

Registration and additional meet information is available on the CFL FPV website at www.cflfpv.org.

This meet typically sells out well in advance of the actual event, so get registered now and secure your spot!

Sponsors

ReadyMadeRC has sponsored the CFL FPV meets from the very beginning, and this year is no exception! They've donated generously as the title sponsor to support this event, and to allow us to bring you several enhancements that we'll be announcing over the coming weeks. Thanks, RMRC, for your love of the hobby, and continued support of the FPV community. Be sure to stop by the RMRC site and show them your appreciation!

Facilities & Accommodations

• Port-O-Potty’s will be provided on the flying field.
• A food vendor will be onsite during the day.
• Real bathrooms and showers will be available for attendees that are camping onsite in a tent or RV.
• Onsite bunks will be available to rent (see below).

Camping Onsite:

• You may setup a tent or bring an RV. Note that the facility does charge a camping fee, but rates are reasonable and this fee provides a real shower and bathroom.
• There are no water or electrical hookups, so plan to be self-sufficient during your time onsite. Water *may* be available in small quantities through the camp.
• Bringing a generator with power to spare is the quickest way to make new friends and find yourself lord of your immediate area.

Bunking Onsite:

• Bunks will be available to rent in summer camp style cabins.
• Each cabin is communal, and includes 8 to 15 bunks in 1 to 3 rooms.
• Cabins include electricity, air conditioning (yes, you may need it in February in FL), and 2 to 3 bathrooms with showers.
• Bringing the whole club, or a group of friends? Contact us directly if you're interested in reserving an entire cabin just for your group!

Staying onsite may not afford all the luxuries of a fancy hotel, but it is far more economical, and ensures that you'll be there to enjoy all of the late night activities! Want to be a beta tester for the hottest new FPV gadget? Having a compromising photo of your favorite sponsor is the best way to get in the club!

QUESTIONS:

-Do you have to be AMA registered to fly in the 2016 CFL FPV Meet? If not, what insurance maybe required?
-Do you have to be FAA to fly in the 2016 CFL FPV Meet? (i.e. any drone over .5lb)
-Will pilots be required to have FCC "HAM" Licence to fly freq over 25mw to fly in the 2016 CFL FPV Meet??
-Do you have a schedule yet? Racing heats? Classes? Acrobatic competition? Fixed wing, etc. What days each event will take place?
-How many pilots have registered thus far? How many pilots can register?

The www.cflfpv.org website is vague of "need to know" and schedule information. It is basically dates, location and "Pay here" link. What are we getting for our money?

Hi noneed,

I just replied to an email with the same questions, so I assume that was you. For the sake of this thread and anyone else reading, I'll post the questions and responses here too.

From email:

I notice you guys have a website advertising an FPV event (http://www.cflfpv.org/) at the end of this month, hosted by http://www.readymaderc.com/store/.

It will supposedly include quad racing and multi-rotor aerobatics. Right?

Z: The event is primarily a "fun" meet (i.e. a meet with some racing, not a race meet), but yes there will be both fixed wing and multi-rotor races, as well as some other contests (like quad freestyle).

On your website, the event venue states the location as "Easter Seals Camp Challenge" however I notice this is right next to Central Florida Sport Fliers flight field.

Is the CFSF club part of this event?

CFL FPV: The event is indeed at Camp Challenge, which is why we're able to offer facilities like bunks, showers, and real bathrooms. The flying will take place in a large field at the front of the camp. While the camp formerly allowed CFSF to use the field on some weekends, they moved a while ago and are no longer using that location. CFSF is in no way involved with the meet.

There is no information on the website about this event other than a location, date(s) and how to send your $50 bucks to "register" as a pilot. I presume there will be more information as the event gets closer but it is already 3 weeks away.

CFL FPV: What sort of information are you looking for? The website includes information about the venue, accommodation options, sponsor details, and the meet dates. We intentionally withhold the exact schedule of events until closer to the meet because this is a fun meet, and if we announced every surprise contest then some would go overboard trying to prepare and practice. There will be some serious racing with much of the MultiGP crew in attendance, but we also have a few contests that I guarantee you've never seen before! There will be many major sponsors on-hand, Joe Scully (the professional race announcer) will be covering the races and general emcee duty throughout the weekend, and the FPVLive.tv crew will be covering the event and streaming it live.

Having said that, the schedule will be going up in the next few days. If you're curious about a specific event feel free to ask. The pilot fee covers all four days of the event, entry into all prize drawings (over 12K in giveaways), and entry to all contests and events.

QUESTIONS:
-Is the flight field part of the "Central Florida Sport Fliers club"?

CFL FPV: Covered above.

-Do you have to be AMA registered to fly CFL FPV 2016 ?

CFL FPV: No, this is not an AMA event.

-If not, what insurance maybe required?

CFL FPV: The event has its own general liability coverage.

-Do you have to be FAA registered? (i.e. any drone over .5lb)

CFL FPV: This is the pilot's responsibility and choice. We will not be checking for registration IDs at the door.

-Will pilots be required to have FCC "HAM" Licence to fly freq over 25mw?

CFL FPV: Same response as the FAA question.

-Do you have a schedule yet? Racing heats? Classes? Acrobatic competition? Fixed wing, etc. What days each event will take place?

CFL FPV: As I mentioned above, this is not a hardcore race meet. The full schedule will be up soon, but I can tell you that the races (and most of the big events) will be Friday and Saturday, with the awards banquet taking place Saturday night. Thursday and Sunday are travel days for a lot of people so we keep those more open. Both MR and FW events will all be unlimited (well, 4S max for MR), heads-up, run-what-you-brung.

-How many pilots have registered thus far? How many pilots can register?

CFL FPV: We limit pilot registrations to 100 pilots, and there are a little under 20 spots left. The event typically sells out.

Thanks for any information to help in helping decide if we can attend or not.

CFL FPV: Much of the discussion takes place on our FPV Lab thread. Feel free to drop by and join the conversation. http://fpvlab.com/forums/showthread...-February-2016&p=760335&viewfull=1#post760335

CFL FPV: This is a really fun event and is always a great time. There will be free-flight, competition, night flying, sponsor demos, and lots more. Feel free to ask if you have any other questions.
