Carbon props? Pitch?

Good morning,
This is my first post so here goes.....
I have a x650 frame with upgraded motors , dji wookong and 11" props. And a spectrum dx8
I use it for aerial photography and the results have been fantastic,
Hopefully passed my learning to fly stage now I thought I would upgrade to a set of lightweight carbon fibre props,
The only noticeable difference was the blade was slightly narrower and had a greater pitch but still 11"
Had a couple of flights with them now and the quad is almost uncontrollable making strange noises from the motors and learching from side to side.......
I put the old props back on and it was perfect.....
Do I need to change any setting?

Probably. Thin props will spin at a higher rpm,,, less drag. Efficiency parameters have changed. 11's might need to be changed, also. Try the gains first.

Assuming you have balanced them well?

Thanks for your quick reply....
I did balance them so I do not think it is that.
I had 10" props for a while and they were good but when I upgraded to 11" it gave me a little bit more stability.
I have not changed any gain values as do not really want to change any of the settings as essentially it was flying perfectly....
Do you think it is worth persevering with the carbon props ? A little lighter and stronger and look great but...... Do they change the flying stability?

From where are those carbon props? i tried the ebay 1047 and though they balance great i think somewhat the pitch is messed up no matter what i do or what gains i set on the FC the quad would always wooble... back to the old props and no problem... wasted 63$ for the carbon bling....

The props were from a reputable company in the uk, same place as I purchased all of my kit.
But it does seem strange how different the characteristics are ( won't fly )
As you say look great but if they do not fly then ......... Not the best purchase I have ever made.
Will be interesting to see if other people out there have had the same experience?

Hi David and Welcome to MRF.

The supplier of my DW Octo8 suggested that I stay away from the carbon props and to use the Xoar wooden ones as they ran quieter and less vibs.
Also mentioned that if I wanted it to look good - Go the carbon.. Currently running APC's with no probs so haven't swapped out to the Xoars yet to see
if there is any benefit.

Had a look at the wooden props on the web site and they do look very nice, not really thought about the wooden option before.....
Just back from a perfect flight as the light started to fade, using my original 11" props... Perfect again.
The lesson is..... If it is not broken do not fix it...... And looks are not everything......but performance is

Presumably these CF props are intended for multis? What pitch are they? If the pitch ratio is 50% or higher, i.e. 11x5.5, 11x6, etc., then you'll encounter problems with "blade stall" (which could be a possible explanation for the odd noises).

More specific info would help - what motors, batteries, weights, etc.? What's the pitch of the 11" props that fly ok?

I believe that these are specific for quadcopters and believe that they are 11x5 at least thats what it states..
The props I am currently using I am not 100% sure but I think are 11 x 4.7
The motors are torque pro, battery overlander 5000mh and weight .... Has a go pro camera mount with a canon s100
I guess it is under weight but not that much under....
Without sounding..... Stupid what would be the best pitch to give maximum stability for aerial photography....
