Hoverfly Bumblebee 550 and Hoverfly Pro

I just bought a new Bumblebee 550 from Hubbylord. This is my first multi-rotor and I am very excited to try it out. The problem is that during installation, I was unfortunate enough to connect a wrong connector to the main battery, which caused the MC-unit to be destroyed. Since I plan on building a bigger multi-rotor later, I decided to buy a Hoverfly Pro board instead of buying a new MC-unit from Hobbylord. The problem now is that when the Bumblebee`s electronics are connected to the Hoverfly Pro board, then the motors starts spinning in a given RPM and I am not able to control the speed at all. The engines start to spin when I connect the main battery and continues to spin until I disconnect the battery, regardless of whether I`m arming or disarming the board. The violet LED flashes too. Is there anyone here who knows what might be wrong? I have a suspicion that I have to reprogram the ESC `s, but I can`t find an English manual on Hobbylord`s 20A ESC`s anywhere. Grateful for any answers!

Sorry if I end up asking you things you have done but I need to know the steps you have been through so far in setting up the HFP board.
Firstly what firmware have you got loaded in to your board?.
When you have the board connected to the setup software what configuration have you set the board to?
When you have the board connected to the setup software, in the general tab do you see the sliders on the software moving correctly with your radio stick movements?

Thanks Stacky for swift reply! I have installed the latest firmware. Of some reason it was not possible to set the configuration I wanted for my quad. The software just skips the configuration tab. I can see the sliders moving correctly according to my stick movements in the general tab. I have tried to configure each ESC separately without having them connected to the HF board, but the symptoms are still the same.

I think the problem lies in not being able to set the configuration in the configuration tab. You might want to try flicking the little position switch a couple of times to see if its got stick in one spot and then try the configuration tab again. I dont think this is an esc issue but more related to not setting the correct configuration.

It depends on what you are talking about. The "Select Mode" tab gets skipped on v4.x firmware because selecting the mode is no longer a necessary step in flashing firmware. This selection was moved to the setup client. Read here:

I have the same problem and I'm pretty sure it's the ESCs. I first tried on two different FC and it was the same thing. I then hooked the ESC directly to the Rx and the minute you apply power, they will turn on without being able to control RPM. I then tried to calibrate it by putting the throttle to full and when I pluged it in, the motor started twitching and then smoke came out. Not sure what the correct procedure is to calibrate those ESCs. Very frustrating.

Hi, the reason the motors are spinning is because the esc's on the bumblebee kit are ultrapwm so with another flight controller they will spin with no throttle input .
Change the esc's to regular hobbywing , maytech or turnigy and they will work fine with the Hoverfly , Unless there is a setting in the Hoverfly to allow Ultrapwm escs to be used.

Thanks for the reply. I did some more reseach and found the same answer. I even hooked them up directly to a Rx and it was the same thing. I thought it was faulty ESCs or something. Now I know.

Thanks for the reply! I'll try to activate the ultrapwm setting in the Hoverfly as soon as I get home from work:) I´ll let you know how it worked.

Maytech esc's do not work with hoverfly apparently. I tried and can confirm. Check their site for known issues. Seems those who are having success are using turnigy plush or castle creations ( with latest firmware for MR's)

I think servo signal boosters may help with Maytech ESCs

i have the same problem i think the stocks esc hobbylord st20a that come with the ST550 are sheat... It does that with or without my Naza Fc connected. Otherwise, even without any device plugged, the motors spins and nothing in my tx can't do about it but turn off it!

I have a Bumblebee and I would like to replace the FC with a NAZA. The ESCs will have to be replaced becasue as I have learned connecting stock BB ESCs to any other FC and it will only go full speed and kill everyone around it. So.... Does anyone know of an ESC that will fit in the little compartment on the BB? I really don't want to zip tie them to the booms. thanks in advance.
