ASP gimbal problem

I am trying to set up the ASP nex 5 brushless gimbal from RC Timer running the martinez controller on a Mikrokopter xl , It is all balanced etc and works perfectly when holding the MK and tilting and rolling the MK fast , it also works well in the hover but when flying sideways or forward quite fast (not yaw ing) it leans quite a lot towards the direction of travel.
it can also be seen to a lesser extent when holding the MK and moving it from side to side , so I figure its not interference from the MK . It also does the same thing when powered independently with a 3s lipo ( hexa is on 4 s )

any help would be great Nick

I'm not familiar with the Martinez configuration capabilities, but basically you need to reduce the influence of the accelerometers in favour of the gyro. The accels are sensing the translational acceleration and skewing the mathematics, hence the "horizon drift". Theoretically one should only need the gyro to compensate a gimbal, since they measure rotational accelerations and that's what we're trying to correct - the accels (which measure linear accelerations) are really only there to improve the "attitude estimation" from what is, essentially, a low-grade, noisy gyro.

Hi,
I have been told that the later v49 firmware rectifies this problem , any pointers as how to update to v49 ?

Nic, your gimbal will perform different on a 3s vs. 4s. You're going to have to get familiar with the arduino platform and learn how to flash your board. This is a tedious process for most but it's the most important. I've got 3 martinez boards all from rctimer, every one performs different on the same gimbal with the same camera all the boards having the exact same settings. Here's the project download page-http://code.google.com/p/brushless-gimbal/downloads/list.
Not to take eyes from this forum but since the martinez stuff isn't discussed here has much as the AlexM boards, start reading this thread at another forum, every problem you will have will have been had by someone else...http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1829058.
