Approving my first build..? :-)

Hello everybody


I have googled and youtubed alot by now about multicopters.. I have come to a point where my head is full of too much information and I need help from experienced people to get further in the process.

That's where you perhaps comes in ;-)

I have read about starting small and I have done so, but I am ready to take the next step.


So my questions which I hope you can help with are:

Does the items I list below work together? Like I am not sure how I should choose ESC's. Should the ESC's max AMP be the same as the motors or higher?

Are the items I have chosen (and partly been recommended by others) something you also would recommend or even buy?

Besides the list below. Is there anything else I need to buy?


My build so far:

- Frame: Sky-Hero Spy (small) I OWN THIS ALREADY

- DJI Naza V2 with GPS

In addition. I would like a hexa in the future. So it would be very nice to be able to reuse the items. So if for some reason the motors or something else is not good for a hexa please let me know.

I would also like to be able to carry a 2 or 3 axis gimbal and camera. Will it be likely that it will be strong enough to lift it...


I know I have asked alot and I would highly appreciate any and all help.

Your set up seems solid.
The motors are pretty similar to Avroto’s, so i’d suggest running a 4S set up.
I’d get a 4000 - 6000mah 4S packs... any receiver will work, the smallest with the channels you need or get one with S-bus since your using Futaba.
On 4S, 10’ - 12” props will work. personally I like 12” (some will argue this and say you want 10", but I have never had any issues and I like the way 12” feel on this size motor)

i did a review of the Skyhero’s on RCgroups.com just look up Sky Hero and you will see it.

Peter, Cant see any issues with your motor ESC choice. I am actually looking into building up the same, looking at Maytech OPTO 30A ESC (simonk flashed), TIGER 2814/10 770kV Motors on 4S, Graupner 10" props possibly 11" bottom props. For Tx/Rx I stick with Hitec, reasonable cost, easy to program and never had an issue with hitec gear. I use Aurora 9 with 9ch Rx.
For LiPo's I try and stick with Gens Ace, again good performance reasonable cost. I think I am going to try the Super X FC in this one.
There is a handy guide to recommended motors and batteries of each model on the Sky Hero website.

How is the Sky Hero setup for battery placement, I would ideally like to run on 2 parallel 3300-4000mAh's. Is there room for 2 lipos?

I dont think you will gain much in the future by having a flat hexa, a little more flight efficiency thats about it. Motor/ESC/Prop redundancy is questionable on flat hexa's wheras its a definite in general with Y6. Coax is far better in windy conditions and I'm guessing from your choice of store links your from windswept UK. I have a hex which is great but its wind tolerance is low and hence it doesn't get used much. the differnce between it and my X8 in wind is like night and day.
