Envirowar found Multicopters and now it has found you.

My company is RP Services and this project is under the "Reconnaisance Prosecution" arm of RP Services. Other RPs are Rescue of Personnel, Resource Protection, Recovery of Property and the ever popular Report Philandering. You are reading this because you may be ideal to contribute to this project with your knowledge, ideas and maybe you will become a member of envirowar and do your part in saving something for the 7th generation that follows this one on our planet.

Nice to be amongst friends and fellow multicopter magicians from Dave in Richmond BC Canada.

Envirowar is not only me but a concept. Environmental bounty hunting through the use of stealth surveillance. The evidence of poaching and pollution events we could force an end to such abuse by prosecuting and collecting $2K under RAPP sytem in Canada per person convicted and using the rewards to provide more envirowar members with the equipment and training to bring envirowar on the people who abuse our home planet illegally.

The value of irrefutable evidence in such cases can force guilty pleas in court saving everyone money and time and prison. The fact is that the criminals never saw or heard anything out of the ordinary for three days while evidence was being gathered that would convict them.

Muticopters are uniquely suited to this type of work. My needs are to allow the following scenario to happen.

Environmental Crime: Timber theft by a 40 member crew in a remote un worked cut block license.

Need to remain undetected for up to 3 days but remain within control and live data and telemetry download range of surveillance UAV in mountainous remote areas with no access to power or communications other than satellite.

Evidence required:

1. Clear photographs and video of each of the participating crew members in the act of doing a criminal act

2. Evidence as to when and where exactly this took place

One major snag is that they often work at night loading trucks and moving timber when they are not likely to be seen. So evidence needs special sensors and the UAV must operate in the dark. Hmmmmmmmm?

Anyone that can offer assistance in perfecting the above tool based around Open Pilot is invited to be part of the Envirowar team.

I am old but unlike "dog" I like new tricks

This is an interesting cause I was just thinking about environmental solutions last week while doing some business planning on filming with multicopters at night. Im gonna add this in there and talk to my friends what can be done. Great initiative, good luck!

It has taken an enourmous amount of time for me to progress with this design. First I had to learn a new CAD program Rhino 3D. I have chosen to 3d print the entire airframe in ABS so had to find out how large the pieces could be. The answer came from http://www.grassrootsengineering.com/blog/ which has a build capacity off about 15" x 15" x 12" high.

Very early the disign was settle on as a hex, but the most important disign dicisions were to use true ducted fans and to drive those fans with "rim drive". The goal was to isolate the electrical components from all weather elements. For the first construction, the motors will be fitted with a wheel from an RC motorcycle which will drive a rim whichsince the main loads are axial carries the fan blades and this fan "ring" is supported by bearings that are mounted in at 3 points around the rim that mesh with a semicirular groove around the outside of the ring. The axial loads from the blade lift is my main concern so the bearings will be tilted to 45 degrees from vertical to balance tthe axial and radial loads.

I have not figured how to place or connect pictures here so a description of the structure follows.

The cross sections is eliptical and is currently 40" in diameter and 6" high at the centre. This ellipsoid is sliced horizontally to give access to the motors and fan drives. The discus shape is cut into 6 identical "pie slices". Each slice has its central point cut at 3" from the centre to form a hexagonal hub. The ducts are part of the top and bottom halves of the 6 airframe modules. Motor mounts are in the space between the hub and the fans. Due to the almost 8 to 1 ratio between the fan rim and the friction drive wheels, the motors are very high kv to give a fan speed equivalent to a direct drve 850 kv. The fan rings inner surface fits flush with the wall of the duct. The end goal is to make the fan rings the rotor of a brushless motor with the stator built into the outer duct structures themselves. That rim drive is currently used by rolls royce in the massive thrusters used on off shore oil rigs to move them across oceans, http://www.marinelog.com/DOCS/NEWSMMV/2005nov00150.html. That marine thruster is rated at 850 kilowatts but the technology is directly scaleable to the 9" diameter ducted fans I am using. The blades for the fans are from this project http://www.trekaero.com/Trek_VTOL_OVIWUN_Vehicles.htm and were delivered e complete with CAD files for the ducts.

I seem to being travelling a path not walked yet but that is where I like to venture.

Hope you enjoy my travelogue Updates should happen more often now. see this pdf for a rendering of the current design View attachment 2330
