Another Video need some advice on how best to set the gain

Hi all
I took the Ad6 out for it's first outdoor flight today and it was very unstable in fact I ditched it! I turned the gains down as they were all set at 150% to 130%, and it flew a lot better but in GPS mode it,s really unstable still and does not stay in one spot at all! Here is a video of it flying as you can see when I turn to GPS mode it becomes unstable.

Turn gains down even further , but when you have them too low the gps may toilet bowl .
Also make sure the xyz settings are accurate.

The little bit of test flying I've done with my AD6 H/L show the gains need to be in the 200 to 250% range for it to fly well. Haven't yet been able to get a good long test flight as it smoked an ESC on landing and I'm waiting for replacement to arrive. Also, what are you using for props? I've found the APC slow flyer props to not be WKM friendly, Graupner or the APC thin electric work much better. I had similar problems to what I see in your video when trying to use slow flyer props or props that were bigger than they needed to be. On larger multis the WKM seems to work best with the smallest props that will do the job, on the AD6 I wouldn't go any larger than 11 inch unless absolutely necessary.

My setup is Droidworx AD6 heavy lift, WKM controller, Pulso 2814 motors, 30A ESCs, Graupner 11 x 5 props, two 4S 5000mAh battery packs, Photohigher AV130.

I'm flying APC 12 x 3 8SF props on my AD6 H/L and could not be happier with the stability. Gains are around 250 but it actually flies pretty darn well at the default 100 settings. I'm running Turnigy 40amp Plush ESCs and AVroto 2814 Short shaft (770KV) motors.

Hi all
Yes I know the flashing amber is the voltage warning. I was more interested in the way it's flying whilst in gps mode! The gains are down to 130% from 150% and it's a bit better. The props are 13" with 40amp ESC'.

the props are 13+6.5

The props are 13+6.5s.

Geoff said they would be better for our Ap set up. i think the gain needs to be tuned down as a result of the lager prop size?

Dom, I think I mentioned props before. I did my maiden flight on 13 inch props and it was very unstable, it oscillated loads. Do a search in the meets section, you will see a video of it. I have now tried some cheap 12" epp props and they work loads better. I have some 11" graupners on the way which should hopefully make it even better!

It could also be the imu, is it tied down really firmly to the center plate? It can't just be fixed with velcro otherwise it will move and vibrate. It needs to mimic exactly what the heli does to work properly.

Dom , everybody will have different set ups and what seems to work well etc .
I have flown a Big octo CS8 with 14" slow flyers and was happy with the results and swapped to 13" apc TE on it was a slight improvement .
Just completed 2 Quad Xl builds with 12 x 3.8 Carbon props on and it flies great but with different gain settings .
There is also a video of a hexa running 15" props knocking about and that is flying well with the WKM .
When setting the gains I get a idea instantly on take off what needs to be adjusted and if you notice vibration or shaking when taking off , this generally means the gains need reducing .
Looking at your video , it is not a million miles off and a few more tweaks and you will have it flying perfect.

I think Dom had them default so it would be Low timing . I have advised to switch to Medium as this timing works well for me .
High timing did you see a significant improvement over medium Sebas ?? as this can cause everything to run hotter.

I now have mine on medium timing with Graupner Eprop
With heavier APC sf I had mine on high and made it more stable, stopped twitching to correct. But much hotter dough.

much happier with the graupner flight characteristics, only flight time has reduced.

Your set up is exactly the same as my own except for the mount and props, I'm using AV200 360 and what I do have and seems to be a problem is exactly what you pointed out "prop size" I'm using APC 13" 6.5e and my stability is poor (just as in the video posted here) so I think I will go for the props you have. What is you stability like with 11" props and is there plenty of lift? do you have any video footage to look at taken with your AD6 HL

Hi iceman. I posted earlier in this thread. I'm using the AV130 with APC 12 x 3 8SF props on my AD6 H/L. I use two 4S 5000mAh LiPos and carry a GH2. The lift is very good and stability very smooth.
