Hoverfly Almost ready to fly

i have the HVP black board and i finally got it to arm. now i am having problems when im just under quarter throttle looking good like it will lift off it goes FULL power right upside down! im going to calibrate the board again and see if that changes .
im using a dx8 ar8000 tx rx??

Welcome to MultiRotorForums.com!!
when you say calibrate the board again, did you calibrate each individual ESC?

yeah and checked that twice. in the setup utility when i connect it shows that everything is working correctly, i just tried again and it does the same thing wants to full power flip, also i have zero controls just throttle?

Hvp gain reduction

Your gain is too high. What is it set to? You need to turn the EPA on the Gear channel down to maybe 20 to start then go up from there. Also all of your switches must be in 0 to start.

There is a good explanation of tuning the gain here http://www.hoverflytech.com/Documentation.html

I, too, have the black HVP board and as far as I can tell by the description given, this does appear to be the solution. I recall having to reduce the gain to either 20% or 25%, for both mode/sw-pos gain setting (ie. +/- 20%, for JR or Spektrum). Let us know if this is, in fact, the correct fix for the issue you're experiencing.

Hi guys,

I seem to be experiencing the same problems on my HEX, I have the Hoverfly Black board and I'm using a Hitec Aurora 9 TX.

I took my quad out first with the HF board as I'm testing the new Aurora 9 TX, I ended up flying around a little to get the best Gain setting which I thought was +/-36 as the quad was very stable with no shakes. Then I quickly swopped over the board to my Cinestar 6, took it out and at about 1/4 throttle it just flips over to the left. I came back and read that my Gain might be to high so I set it down to +/-20% after which I took it out again, and the same thing happened, flipped over to the left as before. Before the second flight I updated the firmware to v4.0 just to make sure that it is not a firmware problem.

dckiteboards, did you manage to get your setup to work properly? What configuration is you MultiRotor in?

I really hope this is a stupid mistake on my side.

Regards,

Andre

Welcome to MultiRotorForums.com!!
andre,

when you wwitched the board to a different helicopter did you go through all the calibration steps again?

Hi Bart,

Are you referring to the Temperature and Accelerometer calibrations? I did not redo those, I swopped the board from the Quad to the Hex and just changed the frame configuration under the "Pro Info" tab. Is the calibration required every time I swop frames?

Welcome to MultiRotorForums.com!!
the manual says that any changes to configuration should be accompanied by re-runs of the calibration steps. it's in the GPS manual. i doubt that that would cause the flipping problem but it's something that is supposed to be done apparently.

Hi Bart,

I did both the Temp and accelerometer calibrations, but still the problem persists, took it out yesterday and it flipped again. I'm going to double check that all my ESC are programmed correctly but I don't think that is the problem.

Any more ideas anybody?

Regards,

Andre

I dont know what is going with mine, i used a walkera 2801 pro tx /rx and it worked part of the time time and then when i placed foam like i told you it seemed to not flip. night time flights were amazing. and then of course when i went to film a video showing what was going on it WOULD not repeat. The foam didnt help it still flipped. so i went back to my faulty DX8 thats in for repair currently, and it didnt flip .. so ill get the radio back next week hopefuly and ill start flying the crap out of it. ill have to let you know. as of right now i would blame the flipping on my Radio, whatever setting that may be.. im not very technical, if something doesnt work i dont do that again, i dont over analyze anything. i can go to the hardware store and build anything! however when i do things correct i do remember.

I find it very strange as I used the exact same board and TX on my quad and it flew like it was on rails.. I'll swop back to my old TX and see if that fixes it. This really is a very strange incident. I've logged a ticket with the Hoverfly guys as well so lets see what they come back with.

What configuration are you flying?

Hi All,

OK still no luck my side, I swopped out radio's - tested and it still flips. Reprogrammed all the ESC's - tested and still flips. Placed a small beach of open cell foam on the board - tested and still flips. Down graded the firmware to the latest version 3 - tested and still flips..:dejection: I really don't know anymore. The motors all spin up fine when I remove the props.

Has anybody actually figured out why these things do this? Any help out there?

Well, one things for sure, after reading this I am definitely not testing my first flight with my shiny new av200/360 gear on it!

Yes I would advise you not too, I left my gimbal off as well luckily. I'm thinking of changing out as many esc's as I can tomorrow morning first thing to see if it is not maybe one of them that is faulty.

Hi All,

OK in the early hours of this morning I discovered my problem, pure human error. The esc cables in my wiring loom were marked incorrectly so some of them did not end up in the correct ports on the HF Board. I've managed to sort out the problem and I have had some very good flights since then.

Thank you very much to all that gave very valuable input, I really appreciate it.

Photronix, I will not be contacting you today as the problem has been solved.

The problem is definitely not on the HF Board side.

I hope my mistakes will help someone in the future if they stumble across a similar problem.
