Airworthiness in the UK for >7kgs

So...

We don't seem to have a dedicated thread for this.

Are people starting to plan around this or go with the flow? I'm assuming if your greater than 7kgs but don't need to work in congested areas then the proposals won't apply?

Just run a sub 7kg machine for congested area work? That certainly is the feel I get here with all the talk of sub 7kg builds.

Personally I think give it 24 months and airworthiness will be everything below 20kgs?

Best, Matt.

No I'm back in The Highlands Dave but I'll be down again soon. Last week was complicated by my Uncles funeral.
Will call when I'm in the area!

I am interested in this machine especially as it is under 7KG, but I just can not see how it can be under the limit, and I see you have a kit for sale.
Is it under 7kg with Zenmuse and GH4 and also full landing gear?
Is it a Y3 (6 motors or only 3?), and what was the battery setup, does it also use the DW PDB as that is quite heavy on its own.

I seen you using one at the tower of London, but I did not see any landing gear.

They take off from a modified table. No landing gear. Very useful and capable rig.

These little buggers have been an unbelievable asset this year. We just came back from filming in Scotland where the light was perfect but the winds where manic cap lifters! Our X3 (6motors) was amazingly good. I have been putting a S900 through its paces but in in reality it aint a sub 7 machine, well not unless you only want 6 mins. Its also a real handful in the wind, the short landing gear is causing problems with the down wash, we extended the landing gear which improved it but to be honest its a great machine unless its windy. Then its only saving grace is the Zenmuse gimbal. Our Y6 flies for 12 mins easily 15 mins if you really need to. I have been flying this config since we started down this road and my little one is what has made most of everything we have produced.. I think eyeball is selling one of our CX730 machines.Perfect first machine.

GH4/Zen in no problem for these epic lifters. They really haul arse, 4kg on the rails is no mither. the Zen.GH3/4 is what we are flying along with the AV/Carvec gimbal. MoviM5/A7 is also be a perfect combo.

We don't have retracts / landng gear as the norm.. we have a takeoff platform which eliminates the need for retracts, or we hand launch.

Batteries are two 6600 MultiStars and it comes in way under 7KG

Here is just one of our shoots with this config when a >7kg machine would have been out of the question. I hate shadows but unfortunately the position we had allocated to fly from gave us no choice. Still amazing opportunity to introduce our kit into the motor sport fiternity.

I get what you are saying, however what I am always thinking is if you do not have landing gear, how do you work out your alternative landing site in case of emergencies, or what happens in the unlikely event you need to do an automated RTH?
I was really waiting for the M690 coming out, but these certainly seem like a great alternative, (especially as its always windy here) although I'm trying to figure out how they can lift so much and weigh so little.
Taking a U5 motor with 15" props (not sure what the largest Prop you can have on these) you are talking 6kg at 50% thrust. (minus maybe about 15% for co-ax config)
The 2 x lipos on their own are 1.6KG

@ Quniton.
In an emergency its still going to land at our cost. If its an emergency situation I don't care about the cost to us as long as the machine lands safely. We don't need to do automated RTH, thats what home lock is for on the WKM. But again that is the last resort. Orientation is for the pilot to always maintain awareness of. It can still be returned to normal flight for landing if HL is initiated. The whole idea of the safety case will be based on you own ability to manage and maintain a safe flight and your actions if an unexpected situation occurs and the action you will take to avoid third party interactions.

Guess we are straying a bit from the thread.

If you have any further requests for info about our machines PM me.
