For Sale Feeler - two Freefly Cinestars - one in X8, one in Y8

Greetings and Happy 2019! Chris here from SoCal putting out reluctant feelers for two of my heavy lifters, plus a Helipal Storm 6. The focus of my business has shifted away from primarily drone operations, so my two beautiful heavy lifters are sitting idle.... (sigh). They were both bought...

Need Help! seeking expert advice in beginning a UAV career

+1 for Old Man! Totally agreed. If you just plan on flying around, that's like a pilot without an airline. Which is great for some, not for others. If your ultimate objective is to be in upper management with a corporate career, managing other pilots and occasionally flying yourself, then yes...

Need Help! seeking expert advice in beginning a UAV career

What I did (and still do today) to start was as John said, but with a twist - I bought crashed DJI drones, some for pennies on the dollar (a friend just gave me a crashed Phantom 2 vision plus, for instance) and put them back together again. Same deal, same education, but the components on a...

BTW, if you think that drones are toys, and not real aircraft, read this: https://www.wsj.com/articles/ntsb-rules-drones-are-aircraft-and-subject-to-faa-rules-1416326767

Need Help! seeking expert advice in beginning a UAV career

Okay, I'll jump in... Shaun, hello! Greetings from the world of pro drone flying! Okay, you've asked a zillion questions. Mostly I think you've done some online research and have been seduced by the "buy and fly and make money quick" image that people like DJI and Uneeq want you to have. Kinda...

    RTF Drone or DIY Drone

I've shot in Turkey a lot. One of my best friends is one Ali Murat Erkorkmaz, a well-known animator out of Kadikoy in Istanbul. The Storm 6 is available in parts, suitable for import into Turkey. That's why I suggested it. You can have the people at Helipal build it, test everything, then take...

    RTF Drone or DIY Drone

Murat, hello! I can see you're going for cost over quality here, and I think that perhaps the Helipal Storm 6 or 4 with a Tarot H4-3D gimbal and a GoPro Hero 5 Black with PeauPro lenses might be a better bet for you. It is a known quantity, now in its third generation, is well documented...

Advice for a guy that knows basically nothing about drones

I'd go with a P3Pro if you can spring for it. I got one for about that kind of money here, used, and the guy who sold it to me ran me through pretty much everything I'd need to get and keep it running properly. The P3 is good, but the Pro camera is better.

Which drone to buy for automotive videos

Agreed. When you're spending upwards of $8k base price for an Alta or similar with a decent gimbal, and then around $220 base price for a pair of batteries (8-12 pairs usually, and they last maybe 300 charges, so at least one new set per year) plus the balanced chargers for them (around $350 per...

    New and confused

Might I point you at ecalc.ch? It's an online calculator for balancing your electrical and electronic elements - what motors, props, ESCs, batteries, frame sizes, etc., give you what flight duration, total thrust, power/weight, range and all of the other variables you're asking for. I think a...

Discussion Canadian Airspace Extending into US Airspace?

Okay, so I double-checked. If you're flying for recreational purposes, you'll have to abide by the 5-mile rule, regardless of nationality, that's just safety issues for you. If you're operating commercially, then you need to abide by the airspace rules. i.e. if that heliport is in Class G...

Discussion Canadian Airspace Extending into US Airspace?

Klesica, hi I think that's just a computer deal for ya, but then again, I think the software people are more concerned with safety than legality. However, I'm double-checking that as a legal issue as I type. Ultimately, it's not wise to fly close to a heliport, no matter where it's located. One...

Discussion Canadian Airspace Extending into US Airspace?

JCLs: Even though a public road inside a park area is, legally speaking, legal for flying over, it would very much depend on what property that road lies on, and, as you have said, whether or not it's possible to emergency/hard land outside the park area. If I were flying a job there, I would...

Discussion Canadian Airspace Extending into US Airspace?

Oh, one more thing. The FA- number from our drone registrations allows for US flight only. If you're going to apply to fly at or over the border (which you can do, in which case you must abide by the destination nation's airspace regulations once you're in their airspace), you have to register...
