I would imagine that Dakar would be a tough environment to work a drone in. Scenes of bikes/trucks left dead in the sand makes me think take off/landing could cause havoc with sand and dust in the motors. Wish my DVR had picked up the footage. It never disappoints.

I think the thickness is typically a bit more with the G10 to match strength. I ended up using 1/8" which was probably overkill, but readily (and cheaply) available. I got it from this guy: http://stores.ebay.com/NorVa-Plastics Cool guy and great to deal with.

Make sure you're basing it on the new larger capacity battery. 2700mah is way too small for a craft that size.

It's fiberglass. Also called garolite. It comes on various versions - so the "10" is just one particular type most often associated with these frames. Any multirotor frame that is not CF would be G10.

Not sure what you mean by "two separate dean connector packs," but I would suggest that you replace the Traxxas with a deans on the battery - so there are only 2 connectors, and no turnaround to deal with the traxxas plug. Raw deans plugs are cheap.
