    Keeping the competition at bay.

I tell them almost anything they want to know. I know just how much time, effort, and trial and error, not mention the $ investment it took to get to the point I'm at now besides already being a fairly proficient RC heli pilot when I started. If someone with little to no RC experience thinks...

    Mikrokopter Av200 360

Only if you plan to have a second person working the camera and gimbal that would be in conrol of all three axis. You can easily pan using yaw otherwise and leave a lot of extra weight and complexity off the multirotor. Ken

    Wookong-M on a Y6

Its just stuck to the top plate with some servo tape, I wanted to get it as close to center as possible and with a large opening on the center of the plate there was no way to attach the stand without adding a "patch" to cover the hole. If I decide to keep it on this setup I may ask for a custom...

    Wookong-M on a Y6

The DJI arrived early this morning while I was out picking up a generator, here's the box it came in with my TX for size comparison... The contents of the box... The accessory box contains the GPS stand, a USB cable, and set of Futaba style leads to connect the TX to the control...

DJI Flight Controller - pricey but impressive

The box arrived this morning much to my surprise considering we were pounded by a hurricane in the previous 24 hours and not much of anything has power around here! Now all I need is the info on how to setup a custom mixer table and I'll be able to fly the Y6 once I get the flight controllers...

    RC gear saves the day

Thanks everyone! I now have part of the house up and running on a brand new 5500 watt gasoline generator, once things settle down a bit I'll have transfer switch installed and the generator will find a semi permanent home in a small shed behind the house I'm not going through this again...;)...

    RC gear saves the day

Hurricane Irene has come and gone leaving in her wake a lot of homes without electricity, mine being of the half million plus in Massachusetts with no power for close to 24 hours now. Some of my RC gear has been key to getting through all this sanely, I charged most of my high capacity 3S lipos...

    Wookong-M on a Y6

I've got the platform built and currently flying with MK electronics temporarily stolen out of my standard Hexa and running the Avroto motors through an I2C converter and PWM ESCs. USPS tracking says the DJI unit will be here Monday, fingers crossed that hurricane Irene doesn't mess things up to...

Building a Mikrokopter a' la carte (from parts, no MK kit purchase)

If it was overcontrolling that means the motors would responding too fast and in that case larger props would slow it down and tame the wobble, clearly that isn't happening here. Ken

Building a Mikrokopter a' la carte (from parts, no MK kit purchase)

My Y6 flys like crap on APC props using the same I2C converter and motors you have, wobbles badly as soon as it leaves the ground. Changing to 11 x 5 Graupners cured about 85% of the wobble and tweaking gyro settings got another 10 or 12%, just a tiny bit of dialing in left before it flys as...

DJI Flight Controller - pricey but impressive

I just received shipping notification that it's going out today, as to when it actually flys depends a lot on what happens when hurricane Irene hits here this weekend and when the USPS is able to deliver it. Ken

DJI Flight Controller - pricey but impressive

Lets just say the DJI has a steep hill to climb to get to the top, there's a reason why MK uses I2C BL controllers and its not so they can charge a lot more $ for their own product...;) Still, I believe it is possible to meet and perhaps even exceed MK performance levels using standard ESCs...

DJI Flight Controller - pricey but impressive

What it means is an ESC takes a 200 Hz PWM input signal where the pulse width varies from 1 ms to 2 ms. A 1 ms width pulse at 200 Hz means the motor is off, increase the pulse width to 1.5 ms and the motor runs at half speed, increase to 2.0 ms and the motor runs at full speed, that is basically...

    Time to try a Y6

Latest update The Y6 flew with MK electronics yesterday for the first time, hard to judge how well as there was a very gusty wind blowing and with hurricane Irene headed directly towards me its not likely to get better until sometime next week. I may not do much testing with this setup, the...

    Turnigy batteries

I've got close to two dozen highly abused Turnigy packs of varying sizes and capacities, of all of them only one is starting to show signs that its getting puffy and all of them still produce close to the flight times they did when new. Some of these packs have been run down to single digit %...

    Done with ebay

AKA Satan's swap meet, I found out some time ago there isn't much on fleabay that I can't get elsewhere and often for the same or less $. I'd never sell anything on there because you're pretty much locked into using PayPal for the financial piece and they're about the biggest rip off going next...

DJI Flight Controller - pricey but impressive

So let's put this in perspective, a complete MK stack with 6 BL 2.0 will cost $1328.68 at MK.US, right now the DJI unit can be had for $1200 until the end of September. Add in say 6 Turnigy Plush ESC for $20 each and we have $1320 or pretty much the same price as the MK hardware. From what I've...
