hoo boy....1.9 million civil penalty! that's a lot of photos!

'Skypan president Mark Segal told NPR member station WBEZ that the proposed fine was ridiculous and unfair, and that the company plans to sit down with the FAA to discuss it.' Pretty funny. This is a slam dunk.

hoo boy....1.9 million civil penalty! that's a lot of photos!

Might have been their lawsuit against the FAA last year had something to do with getting on their radar.

Current feeling on U7 and equivalent KDE?

Using U7-490 and T-motor 80A, 17.5" props. Seems to be a great running combination, but I'm not smart enough to know why. I rely on the airframe manufacturer that has probably tested every motor made to help me with that choice. Fortunately for me, Andrew at Hexacrafter allowed me access to his...

    Zenmuse GH4 Owners thread

In 4k? I have a few GH4's on YAGH bases that I was going to set up as studio cameras but went with the Blackmagic instead since I get camera control with their ATEM switcher. Be happy to test anything you want on the GH4's though. Keep in mind that the 4K SDI out option requires 4 SDI cables...

    Zenmuse GH4 Owners thread

The only possible issue I can see is that you will have a low contrast, soft(er) image than usual when the camera is recording with the V-log profile. If you have an HD downlink though, and a production monitor that can apply a lookup table (LUT) that would help. Panasonic messed up by the way...

Just another drone stadium crash - college football

The biggest changes will happen after someone gets clobbered and a sharp plaintiff attorney takes everyone to the bank. Just look at what owning a pool, trampoline, certain dogs, etc. does to your insurance rates.

Budget vs Tmotor props experiment results.

I had not such great luck with the Supreme Lites. Blades balanced after a little work but about half of the hubs.. impossible. Looked to me like the holes were not on center. Though some would argue balancing the hubs isn't necessary.

Woot woot.. Looks good! Happy it worked :)

A2 gps pro plus magnetic declination?

I mounted mine arrow forward like it says. Surely they wouldn't expect you to remount the puck every time you change locations. From east coast to west, that would be a 30° difference.

    Insurance?

I have multiple policies through different carriers. Hill&Usher have a nice liability policy but won't quote hull insurance. I have an inland marine with The Hartford that removes the drone exclusion and covers me for whatever with a nice high limit. If you work with companies like Disney...

    Drone Drones

I have yet to deal with any production that didn't call them drones. I think the fight is over. In my correspondence, advertising, etc. I just call them camera drones (or agricultural drones, or inspection drones, or whatever you do with them drones).

    Problems with too much power?

Used to be your basic inland marine equipment policy would cover you but the insurance companies have wised up and there are now drone exclusions due to the high loss rate. You can still get it, but the rate is up there. Some companies are writing standard aircraft hull policies on these...

    Problems with too much power?

I'm one of the ones with the 1250L/U7-490's and VERY happy. Got it dialed very nicely with an M5/GH4 and 17" props, then turned around and stuck a Red Dragon on there without changing anything, and went straight to Bonneville on a Nike shoot. Had rotten luck with the Aeronavics quick release...

Hexacrafter X8 - Finished and Ready for Service!

The Hexacrafter vibration system has worked perfectly on my HO-1250 with an M5/GH4 and M5/Dragon. I did have some unrelated tuning issues with the M5 and GH4, but the Red was solid with little effort. Andrew provided me with a combination of rubber isolators so I could fly a range of weights...

1100mm hex build. Hexacrafter, T-Motor, A2. Oh my.

The spark is slowly eroding my connectors as well. I will probably make up a temporary anti spark lead using an AS150 and use it to connect the first battery. Then connect the second battery and remove the anti spark lead.

    Hexacrafter to release x8 frames.

I shimmed my motors by referencing the top of the IMU to the top of the motor using an iPhone level. I found that most were out about .5°-.8°, all in the same direction. Possibly due to a slight twist in the arm.. or as a result of my torque sequence on the top and bottom plates. In any case, I...

Sport pilot VS private pilot and 333 exemption

You don't need a license at all to submit a petition for 333 exemption. However the operating limitations issued will require that the UAS PIC hold at least a Recreational or Sport Pilot certificate. No medical is required as long as you have a valid driver's license.
