The good ol' chicken gimbal.....new version

Thanks for posting that link. I haven't laughed so much in a while. :tennis:

    Motors not starting

Your photo shows your craft equipped with the stock Dji esc's. The problem is probably in how your DX8 is set up. Try again arming the motors with those csc stick positions.

    Hello from Hawaii

Hi Dave! Welcome. I'm just a hop across the water from where you live. Our web host Bart recently wrote a message about the site being hacked that way. I would recommend ignore. Btw, can a retiree live in Hawaii on say a $2000 monthly income?

New to this and nearly lost one already!

You'll find out. I did my research last Winter and the forums were all about trashing DJI kits. The props were weak. The FC was unreliable. The crafts flew away. The props broke. The spinners were unreliable and would loosen. The motors vibrated too much. The Dji props were unbalanced...

    Prop shadows

You neglected to mention that those prop shadows are appearing in a video recording. Not in line of sight flying with no camera carried.

New to this and nearly lost one already!

Congratulations on deciding to buy an F450 kit. That's what I did after getting a Blade mQX and crashing it all the time. Actually my F450 isn't built from a kit. I bought all the components separately just to avoid using Dji motors, propellors, and esc's. All of which have had reliability...

    Prop shadows

Do you mean the shadow your multirotor casts on the ground? No. There's no way. The props are solid. They cast a shadow even when spinning. Why would you want to eliminate them? I think the faint circular shadows are cool. One can see them only when the mr is hovering a couple or three...

    GPS Antenna Height

My gps is mounted directly on the arm, overlapping the top plate. It rests atop a copper foil rfi shield which itself is grounded. The copper shield serves the same purpose as the stalk. In Naza assistant the Z value in the placement screen is set to 0. From the beginning, when I was...

    GPS Antenna

I don't think the gps antenna can be upgraded. The old one had red lettering and the new one has orange lettering. I've had both. I think they're the same.

    esc help???!!!

I saw that video before. That's exactly the kind of programming nuisance I wanted to avoid, same as you. The esc's are pre-flashed with SimonK. They can't be reprogrammed at all. Throttle calibration is still required. Yes. In your DX8 lower the throttle left travel value to -120...

    esc help???!!!

Teco I'm also using 770KV motors and I recommend this esc: http://www.altitudehobbies.com/maytech-eagle-multi-series-30a-multicopter-esc-opto-simonk-1?search=esc I also don't want to mess with programming esc's. They're optos. My quad using those esc's w/ SimonK responds instantly and...

Quad spinning and not getting Air. Video Link inside.

I bought some esc's from hobbyking along with what I thought was a programming card. Turned out I needed something else too which I didn't order. Those esc's are still in a box never used. I chose these esc's instead...

Quad spinning and not getting Air. Video Link inside.

Drewvian I live in Morgan Hill. Close enough to help. I gave up on trying esc's which need programming. My esc's are optos already flashed with SimonK and they can't be reprogrammed. My quad is fully dialed in and flying like a dream. I still can't believe how well my first build flies...

Can't get my head around what batteries to use with my F550

My first build is an F450 with the Aerial Media Pro's heavy lifting conversion kit. It has only flown on 4S batteries. It flies like a beast and for 15 minutes. (Carrying no load) It has flown with both 11x5 Graupners and Xoars. My first build is a success. I'm still flying it in test mode...

Links to purchase aftermarket props for DJI F450??

I've read that before. It's interesting. My F450 is flying with arm extenders, 2814 motors and 11" props. It's a beast. It flies up and away just as fast as that hex Holger Buss flies in the video at the top of the forum home page. It can't descend as fast though. Heck, If I were skilled...

    Naza-M V2 Fly away

I was paranoid because I read so much about flyaways before my first build maidened. My thighs were shaking. Five hours of flying time on my Naza V1 3.12 F450 now and no issues. Tested RTH 10 times now and each time it made me nervous. Not anymore. It works perfectly. Receiver radio loss...

Wedding photog smashes groom with Phantom

Wedding photog smashes groom with Phantom

When I first started learning about multirotors back in January I had some money to throw at it. I discovered this forum and the stickys meant for noobies. I took the advice and spent the next 6 months building my first quad. It flies perfectly and I'm still testing it for consistency and...

Has GPS dumbed down this hobby?

I remember building my first Desktop PC with parts found all over the place. It was state of the art. A 540 MB hard drive and running DOS. No Windows. That machine was cool. Four months later it was obsolete and a dinosaur. Today, people don't have to memorize DOS > commands to operate...

    Told to move along...

That council worker sounds like a person you can't reason with. He probably proudly described his enforcement warning to his colleagues. Best stay away from there, imo. Next time if he remembers you he could call a cop to give you a ticket for that fine. He would think his job well done.
