Commercial sUAS petition is live at Whitehouse.gov

Hi Bart and I applaud your initiative in creating this petition however, the government does not care about 100 petitions with 1000 signatures, it only cares about one petition with 100,000 signatures. It's for every club, blog and forum in America to request this but it would be equally, and I...

Two drones almost collide with NYPD chopper

The figures are all over the place according to who presents them and according to their agenda. It seem that there were about 32,000 gun related deaths in the US however, 60% of those were suicides and don't really count because they would have found a way no matter what. Early numbers suggest...

Two drones almost collide with NYPD chopper

My guess is they're not done with them yet just as they are probably not done with Trappy.

    Guys PLEASE, don't do it!

And they call us the "Land of the free". If anyone here built a giant like that Homeland Security would be up your butt in a heartbeat. LOL

Flew my drone through a firework display

In most of Florida, fireworks are illegal unless set off by a qualified pyrotechnician but they set up huge tents to sell them everywhere. They make you sign a waiver that states that you are qualified. No verification, but once you sign it they are supposedly off the hook. Following the first...

How do you guys mount you Gimbale's on DJIF 550s

I use the Tarot rail mounts bolted to the lower frame with 10mm CF rods. You can extend the rods several inches past the lower frame to hold the camera and gimbal. I mount my battery on the bottom so the straps hold it all together. I once use these to hold my landing gear but have since mounted...

Nevermind. I just noticed the original post was may of 2013. The guy has either resolved it or is dead of frustration.

    Floureon lipos on ebay

I use a 5000 3S 40C hard case Lipo on my 550 clone ( 2212-13 1000kv motors with 1045 gemfan) and get 9 min flight with enough reserve to get home. What is the "C" rating of the battery? 2200 is way small for a 550 and I expect the problem is a too small battery.

    Guys PLEASE, don't do it!

Thanks for the heads up but I believe at this point you are preaching to the choir. Anyone who took the time to join this forum is already smart enough, we hope, to avoid such a stupid stunt. In fact, I doubt anyone in this group who did that would be stupid enough to post it on You Tube. That...

The "Reality" of Commercial UAV Use?

I've said that all along. Builders, flyers and even some manufacturers seem to believe for some reason that the word Drone is a more attractive term and somehow elevates them above the common radio controlled model. Drones are always equated with Hellfire missiles and spy missions and have very...

The "Reality" of Commercial UAV Use?

Actually they are the only voice we have and my friends, it's far better than nothing. When you think about it, you are getting an advocate for the price of a battery. The AMA has rules and regulations also but having been a member for 15 years or more they are rules you can live with and you...

The "Reality" of Commercial UAV Use?

I have flown RC for about 20 years. I flew sailplanes and I can tell you that they were way above 400 ft. We did it with total disregard for general aviation and it was stupid. Today's model jets flown at AMA sanctioned fields and meets have the same 400' restriction as everyone else. 400' is...

How do you measure the temperatures and what piece of equipment do you use?

Be happy to. It's a Raytek MiniTemp. I don't know where I got it but I see several on the web from $47.00 and up. Here's a used one on ebay for $30. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Raytek-MiniTemp-MT6-Laser-Sight-Infrared-Thermometer-20-to-932-F-/161347952463?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2591165f4f

How do you measure the temperatures and what piece of equipment do you use?

Spektrum radios offer a thermocouple with their telemetry and on my large multi's I place it in the Velcro under my battery. I just watch for anything above the ambient temperature. Here that is often above 90 degrees. As for motors and esc's I use the pistol infrared thermometer.

The "Reality" of Commercial UAV Use?

I believe the space above your power plant is "restricted airspace" not private airspace and it was the FAA that determined that for safety reasons. Airports, power plants, military bases and a few others are Restricted Airspace as indicated on sectional charts used by pilots. As is typical...

    Who here is from FL?

Stitch1615 from Dunedin, FL. I have a 700mm Y-6, 550, Idea Fly4 converted to Naza a few smaller ones and am fine tuning my newest build, a Tarot 650. The 650 a a tad smaller then the Y-6 but it is what I consider my "Big Guy". It is powered by 4 Multistar 4830 420kv motors using 45 amp...

MultiRotorForums.com 3 min gimbal testing standard

Gimbal test for return to level and jello Actually I just did a similar test on my Feiyu-Tech gimbal this past Monday. It is mounted on my Y-6 and I tried rapid yaw's, fast forward back and a quick pull-up. Rapid climb and and rapid decent. There are no edits in the video. Y-6 wooden...
