Depends on camera you use or lens (actually the weight that change pitch and yaw axis balance). If the pitch axis (and yaw also) won't be out of balance to much it won't be a problem. True. In my configuration with AlexMos there are used two IMUs (one on camera shelf, second on gimbal frame) and three encoders responsible for stabilisation. And yes, you can connect your drone FC to even improve stabilisation.

No problem. AM board and second IMU is mounted inside main roll arm. It is clean and nice solution.
