Following the burn, it seems to almost come from the two soldiered leads, into the LED strip. Any chance the soldiering "bubbles" where the wires are connected were a bit heavy, and the dryness of the weather caused an arc? Sometimes when it's below freezing, it gets crazy dry and electronics...

Is there any reason a good strong high amp switch like we use on our 40% airplanes should not be used so you can plug in your batteries and then turn on the switch? Seems like a decent idea to get a good "power on" burst. Or even a spark arrestor? Borrowed from another sites post:

From what I can see, the titled motors would help with descending as the dirty air is blown away from the descending craft and the spinning blades. That is why Y6 and X8 machines descend better than flat hex or flat 8 machines.
