FREEFLY Systems Freefly ALTA, RTF collapsible hexacopter

Just saw this note in the Freefly Knowledge Base: First I've heard mention of a "ALTA XL" :D https://freeflysystems.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/204720609-Will-the-ALTA-carry-a-MōVI-XL-

FREEFLY Systems Freefly ALTA, RTF collapsible hexacopter

The RTF machines will be supportable by manufacturers because they can better control what goes into them. For example, the ALTA’s arms are one piece with a proprietary motor and proprietary ESC built in. When I met with them at NAB several months ago, they implied that field replacements of...

FREEFLY Systems Freefly ALTA, RTF collapsible hexacopter

This is the same conversation everybody had when Freefly introduced the original MōVI. "They couldn't have made their own motors." Well, they did. And I assure you that these motors are completely done in house. Cosmetics are irrelevant. There's only so much you can do to make a big brushless...

    Best setup for RED Epic

Are you joking? It's a graph...it has to be true, right?

    Best setup for RED Epic

Not sure this answers your question directly, but here is a graphic Freefly published on their Facebook page showing flight times, payloads and batteries. I found it interesting.

    Best setup for RED Epic

I have been doing quite a few flythroughs of commercial spaces (trade shows, AV installations) where a lot of what you can see is at eye level and above. The top-mount on the ALTA is a dream come true.

    Best setup for RED Epic

Freefly's new ALTA is the most advanced copter out there. It's supposed to ship in a few weeks. Will fly an EPIC and MōVI no problem.

    Humbled...

With all due respect, I'll stick with the professional software devs at Freefly and their closed system. I developed software for 20 years at Apple, Microsoft and other companies. I am well aware of what it takes. And there's no way in hell I'm trusting my $10,000 copter and $10,000 camera and...

    Humbled...

Sounds perfect. Like the presidential motorcades that have a fully kitted out paramedic squad just in case. Or test pilots who wear parachutes and have ballistic ejection seats. You can't be too careful. But seriously, we kind of have to move away from requiring Chuck Yeager (or Chuck Norris)...

    Humbled...

IMHO, that's a complicated question. These FC systems are all prone to failures as they're essentially consumer-level and not designed and built to industrial or military standards. Most (if not all) of them lack any true redundancy in any part of their design, so they can all fail in...

    Humbled...

Quite frankly this thread is a good illustration of why I've decided to invest in the ALTA from Freefly Systems. They're the only one who's building their own frame, motors, props, ESCs and flight control. About the only thing they're not building are the LiPos. The buzz from those who have...

My reading of the T-motor 4014 props with 16" props shows 1920g of thrust at 65% throttle. What are you reading? See here: http://www.rctigermotor.com/html/2013/Navigator_0910/40.html Interestingly enough, the 4014 motors don't appear to be spec'd to run 18" props. There are numerous stories of...

    2 MR debate, FPV question

If you use a standalone FPV video receiver, they output plain NTSC video that can run into a generic LCD display or into many inexpensive goggles. If I was you I'd avoid the goggles and LCD displays with built-in radios...they are somewhat convenient but very limiting and generally not upgradable.

FREEFLY Systems Freefly ALTA, RTF collapsible hexacopter

Freefly just dropped another ALTA video. This one's sure to induce cold sweats when you stop to think about how much fancy payload is skimming so close to stuff. Watch and drool! :)

Autonomous Waypoint Navigation and Camera Control with the FreeSkies Copilot

I recently saw a demo of what these guys are doing and it's super interesting. If they can deliver on what they're trying to do, it's going to be a really exciting step forward.

FREEFLY Systems Freefly ALTA, RTF collapsible hexacopter

One of the things that's become apparent about the Synapse is that Freefly seem to be planning to keep it as an integral part of the ALTA (and probably future larger copters). In other words, you probably won't be able to purchase it separately to put in your own build. As far as what...

    Long Range Quad Build Questions

I think you're a bit in the weeds with some of this. 5.8 isn't great for distance. 10km is super long for a quad. why would you use a AR8000 for telemetry?
