Well, 20% is pretty darn low for the battery. Are you sure that's not it? Where are your limits set?

A lake crash story that ends well. Sort of ...

Sounds like your Phantom auto-landed because of a low battery. Pretty cool that it all fired back up again though.

    Selecting the right Flight controller

A great option. For those on a lower budget there's also NazaM V2 + Ground Station + iOSD Mini.

How Do You Avoid Sparking During Battery Connection

OK, just ordered the AS150/XT150 - hopefully I'll have better luck with them. I think I'll just make a parallel pigtail to the XT90s so I don't have to change every battery over.

How Do You Avoid Sparking During Battery Connection

Thanks. Yup - will do. I always make it a habit to have the opposite connector connected to keep everything aligned.

How Do You Avoid Sparking During Battery Connection

Tarot 650. I run two configurations, one at 6S and one at 4S. I get a decent spark with both but the 6S setup is obviously worse. I do like the idea of going to bullets - much easier to pull apart when you can twist them. Got a good source for the AS150/XT150 connectors in the US? Changing them...

How Do You Avoid Sparking During Battery Connection

Yeah - it's in the positive line. I must say, I'm a bit miffed, but I'm also getting tired of how difficult it is to pull the XT90s apart. Maybe I'll just change everything up.

How Do You Avoid Sparking During Battery Connection

I guess I thought the inline Jeti anti-spark bullet would arrest the spark.

How Do You Avoid Sparking During Battery Connection

OK, I don't understand. I use XT90 connectors and I just put a Jeti bullet connector with the resistor inline in the positive lead and I'm still getting a hefty spark when I make the connection. Did I do something wrong? Just to be clear, the connection I'm making is the XT90 connection.

What is the difference between airframes?

I just moved from a Phantom to a Tarot 650 and like you, Pumpkinguy, I loved learning all the different aspects of design and deciding on what I wanted. I must say that it was a very demanding task since the trade-space is so huge, but as I started to nail down one decision after another I was...

FAA Cancels Model Aircraft Standards Of Operations

And make a campaign contribution. I'm not kidding: the US democracy is coin-operated.

FAA Cancels Model Aircraft Standards Of Operations

So very true. I went through a regulatory process with the FCC - we were a small technology startup trying to get the FCC to create rules for a new class of radio service and we met HUGE opposition. On the surface the opposition was all about safety - The FAA weighed in, the GPS industry...

    Promoting Commercial sUAS.

Sure, I agree - live today, fight tomorrow. Down the line I expect there to be categories of licensing but for now it's a matter of making sure there IS an industry before we get into the nuances of usage and licensing categories. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    Promoting Commercial sUAS.

Yes, agreed, but I am still wary about "one law to rule them all" since such laws always cater to the lowest common denominator and in the case of MRs that's pretty low!! I take your point about the AOPA and perhaps that's how we should model our approach, but the AOPA doesn't make laws and the...

    Promoting Commercial sUAS.

I'm going to disagree somewhat with one part of this discussion: that it is bad for us to let the FAA categorize and separate us into "professional" and "hobbyist" camps. I think it's not only essential that that happens, but that there is in fact a third category that one might call "dabblers"...

High pucker-factor oscillations on climb out - gain help needed!

Here are my gains - this is for the configuration with the 4S batteries and the 17" props (see the link to my build thread in the first post - 380kV motors): Since I knew from the vertical gain exercise that the settings were going to be low, I believe I centered my gains at 100%, which gave...

High pucker-factor oscillations on climb out - gain help needed!

Well, I finally got to mess with this again. All the motors checked out for vibrations under load, so I got back in the air with my gains on two dials on my Futaba and started playing. I found that I had the ATTI gains too high which was causing the oscillation. I actually noticed that this was...

Dual Mode (Hopefully) Tarot Ironman 650 Build

Sorry! Been struggling to make progress with too much business travel :-\ I have the 4S/17" config pretty much dialed-in now - I put the Naza gains on a couple of dials on my Futaba and did some flying in a pretty stiff wind. It's flying really nicely and I was very impressed with how it...

Dual Mode (Hopefully) Tarot Ironman 650 Build

Yes, more battery = longer flight but you get into diminishing returns due to the extra weight. For example, if I went from 2x5.2A batteries in my performance config (6S) to 2x10A then eCalc tells me I might see a whole 90s extra flight time! Not worth it, particularly since that extra weight...
