800mm Hexacopter crashed on Test flight

A couple of my slightly used older motors had some run-out and were hard to balance so I replaced them with brand new. But during the first few test flights I noticed that older motors, M1, M3 and M6 were running hotter than the others and noticed some roughness in motor rpm during MR hovering...

    Batteries

One thing I cam across only a couple of days ago while working on an industrial electrical project involving larger HP motors was this very interesting fact.... The motor torque is directly proportional to the square of the supply voltage. Larger rigs use larger diameter props which may turn...

What's the proper way to charge a 9000 mah battery

This getting a bit confusing...... I think we need more input from more experts.....and maybe even some detailed formula calculations. Anyone here on MRF able to add some more clarity? kloner

What's the proper way to charge a 9000 mah battery

Quinton, I was going from memory on the basis of previous comments here on MRF from others without digging in to the calculations. Obviously the maH doubles with batteries wires in parallel..... but the C rating???? I think we need more input from others....in the meantime here is some very...

    Hi from Ontario, Canada

Billy, There are many here on MRF from Canada. I am from Calgary, Alberta and have been flying MRs for some time now. So post a new item in the appropriate section and you will get some support. The more complete the information, the more accurate the feedback will be for you..... and you get...

What's the proper way to charge a 9000 mah battery

100C rated battery is a bit on the overkill and heavy side relative to a 35C. And two smaller capacity 25 or 35C batteries will provide excellent results since two 35C batteries in parallel is equal to 70C.

    Multirotor landing ring

Good idea, that is an option with the Alexmos 32bit 3-axis BGC as well..... I must make that modification.

    Multirotor landing ring

Re: Tripod landing gear connected to gimbal........ It is my understanding that, to set up Gimbal PID loop control properly, one has to suspend the MR is a sling so that the Yaw axis, i.e. landing gear and camera have to rotate freely so that one can tune it up properly for both heading and...

    ESC Programing

Can't answer all 12 questions and don't have experience with the more sophisticated ESCs but in general this is a start.... 1) Brake = off 2) Battery type = NiXX (not LiPo) 3) LV Protection mode = soft cut-off 4) LV Protection threshold = 0 or as low as possible 5) Start mode = Normal 6) Timing...

Can I land at any valid waypoint through ground station software ??

I recommend that you take advantage of the GCS airdrop feature utilizing a conventional servo to release a payload suspended by a drop cord...... as per this feature of GCS for PCs..... see attached image. remote landing and takeoff imposes a tremendous control handicap... IMHO.

Can I land at any valid waypoint through ground station software ??

Whereas RTH seems to be able to land your MR safely most of the time, there is still a tendency for your MR to tip over if there is any slight horizontal drift leading to broken props and/or damage to motors/escs. Better to set up a system to drop a small package close to the ground by means of...

A2 FC Firmware 2.3 - Here We ALL go Again

I had a similar issue only yesterday.... MR was jittery, 3 motors were extra hot after landing..... so back to the test bench. Frantic but small stick movements appearing in DJI Assistant could be traced to emi or rf noise getting in to the ESC servo wires etc. Move the main power leads etc...

    Batteries

I just looked up SEPIC now..... looks good..... cuts both ways......to achieve the desired output voltage. Most others only drop the voltage.... some with older technology that results in some wasted heat energy.... newer do it digitally and much more efficiently. dial output types need to be...

    Batteries

Voltage regulators help to regulate the output voltage relative to input battery voltage level to some extent. But also many of the BGC boards offer a voltage sensing circuit or require simple addition of a v-divider circuit(2 resistors), i.e., to sense battery voltage level and adjust the BG...

Interesting..... it only takes one regional carrier with regulations more strict than all the others to bring LiPo shipments to a complete stand-still!!!

    Batteries

One rumor I heard from a dealer is that the larger capacity batteries are made once the order has been placed and not before..... and there are some larger capacity batteries that have more stringent shipping restrictions, e.g., 10Amp and higher capacities.

Life is simply too short for us to invest the time required fully understand the complexity, subtle nuances and intricacies of battery electro-chemistry...... which is part of the reason why we may perceive we are being mislead by manufacturer's false claims. Toyota was able to work through a...
